Also a lot of people out there would not keep them selves calm and cool enough to wait till the last second to start firing ...I read about a lot of average gun owning joe's who shoot before they have a clear view of the thug. (through curtains etc)

I think this story probably is based on an actual event but maybe the marketing team decided to make it sound more ad worthy.

Must have been either a crappy door or rotted door frame. To actually kick in a front door is not as easy as it is in the movies. It takes a lot of effort, how many times have you seen real cop shows where they had to use a battering ram and it took more than one hit to get it open.

That would actually make a pretty viable home defense system, provided that said explosion from door won't damage the integrity of the home, or if it doesn't set the house on fire, and there is another door behind the first that acts as a new front door for the house.
