That is an excellent write up. I am curious how the Royal Purple would have compared to the others in that test.

9:00am.

Went out this morning to check. A close visual inspection showed that none of the 3 with oil on them had any rust at all. The control nail has quite a bit of rust on it. Keeping them in order, I moved them to a clean paper towel, and then placed them on a second paper towel on the same board that I had them on last night. The white gives better contrast so that you can see the rust.

I went back out and looked at them again a little bit ago. In prepping the nails, I had initially taken some fine sandpaper and scrubbed the nails in an attempt to remove the protective coating on them. You can see some gray above the ground area in the pictures. Above the gray area right at the nail's heads, none of the protective finish has been touched. I am really glad that I used the bench sander to get down to bare metal as that factory coating looks like some thick and tough stuff.

The nail with the DuraLube on it seems to have grayed ever so slightly. I suspect that the oil itself changed the color of the metal. This is a very slight color change and in no way looks like rust.

I like and use Eezox myself. Haven't had any rust on my guns. There has been numerous Test's on different oils.

Been a week now and here are my observations:

Royal Purple: Zero rust noted

Rem Oil: Heavy surface rust with some deeper rust noted

Control: Heavily rusted

DuraLube: Several spots of surface rust developing, but not much.

Here is the picture from this afternoon:



Has anyone else seen any other tests with the Royal Purple Gun Oil? I am now wondering how it compares in both rust prevention and lubricity to Eezox. I have read that Eezox is really smelly, but the Royal Purple isn't bad at all. I am anxious to see what another week does to the nails.

Thoughts at the 1 week point?

I am surprised that the DuraLube didn't protect longer. Like you, I thought the higher viscosity would have kept more of the product in place to provide protection.

I am really surprised that the Rem Oil didn't provide better rust protection. I think that I am going to throw that can away....
