I don't find the show to be dumb, I think it's pretty gun friendly and overall the 'stars' seem knowledgeable and not "nuts"... which is a big + for guns... gun owners.. etc...

Makes no sense to me. If I was the smith, I'd have a "cheap" stock on hand and mount it in that temporarily. They MUST have slightly cracked / accidentally dinged / came-with-it-from-the-factory / wasn't quite machined right stocks all over the place.

      Sounds like dumb TV tricks.

How much do you think a new hand costs?

But...... If they are that scared of a gun they built blowing up, they shouldn't be in the business of building them.

. . . and I'm wondering why they have to scream, at the top of their lungs, the caliber and make before each live test fire? . . . along with the ubiquitous "fire-in-the-hole" . . .

Yellowboy (Win 1866) has the same open top toggle-action as the 1860 Henry rifle. The difference being the separate tube magazine, a loading gate and a wooden forearm. The rifle was originally designed to shoot 44-40 after they switch the caliber from 44rf of 1860 Henry. 44-40 has real thin case wall which expand and seals the chamber nicely from blowback. However, when chambered as 45LC, its thicker brass does not seal as well and the BP residue often blows back into shooter's face and gum up the action after a while (even if there is no headspace issue). As for stockless test firing, my repro.1860 Henry weights over 9lb; even stockless shooting a pistol-caliber cartridge should be safe, I think.

Why do people continue to watch garbage like this...

It wouldn't be unreasonable to clamp it into a vice or some sort of jig in a vice to hold the action in place and test fire it(it's not exactly difficult to put a couple of holes in a block of wood and bolt it on). I'm sure this is SOP for some shops, but it sounds incredibly dumb.

Seems like with a tv show budget you could have a "test stock"??

cause they aren't the only people in the entire building? maybe there are other workers off-screen or people upstairs in the gun shop. cause i doubt every person wears hearing protection 24/7 while working so that warning yell gives them a chance to stop what they are doing and put some on.

doubt they are getting much money for being put onto a reality tv besides the free marketing.

Really? For the 20 minutes it would take to make a rough jig out of a 2x4, you think they can't afford that?

saw off about 18 inches of 2x4, route a groove on an edge, measure the bolt hole spacing, drill the holes for the bolts, and bolt it down. With something that could be done in the first week of a highschool wood shop class, you now have something to clamp into a vice if you don't want to buy special blocks to hold the receiver.

There is no excuse to not have something so easy to make unless they wanted to show someone shooting a rifle with no stock because the idiot masses would think it looks cool, or they were too dumb to think of the safety of their own hands if they were worried about damaging an actual stock.

It wasn't powder, it was gas due to wrong head spacing.

It's a TV show so of course there will be some things that will annoy people who are already educated in that field, but as long as they don't promote those practices as safe, there really isn't a huge problem.

If anything this show is a lot more gun friendly than Sons Of Guns. They even explained things like "co-witnessing" which is something I would expect from things like Top Shot and they don't even do that. They referred to a .50 BMG as a round for people who like competitive long distance shooting, not something that is only to be used against bad guys from a police boat. Even things like the scenes of the mother giving the daughter shooting techniques, or the dad explaining why they go shoot in the open where they are aware of what is beyond the target, will do a lot of positive in educating that crowd that is somewhat of the belief that guns are a macho or bad thing.

That shop is only a few miles from my house. Maybe I'll go check it out one of these days.
Continuity is not important as long as everything is touching!

No, it was that episode and it starkly illustrated the depth of the idiocy that permeates that program. Beyond their holding the rifle in their hands to avoid ruining a stock, would you build a rifle, set it up to fire without ever adjusting head space? The moron owner should have asked all those pertinent questions before the drmatic hollering about caliber and fire in the hole.
The only head space on that program is the empty space between their ears.

                            Drama morons. All of them.

                              Reality blows, but TV sucks.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.
