    MajorAR!!!

15k rounds alone for a 5.56??!!! How long did it take you to pile that? Then again, not much unless funds weren't an issue?

I just picked up about 5 50mm ammo boxes today. Good containers to have to store ammo! Thanks for the great suggestion!

Question. Where in the house do you guys have your ammo stored? Garage? Bedroom? Readily accessible or barred behind bunker-like safes with laser trip wires and killer guard dogs?! Do you guys have them next to the firearms themselves or are they situated opposite direction/location of the firearms?

BillCA, I like the way you think. In a long term post whatever scenario, a good .22 would likely be your main game getter (lot more small game than big game, and going after rabbit, squirrl, small dog with a Garand is wasteful of meat and ammo).

Stock about 10k for the .22s and 100 for everything else. PLUS components to reload at least 1k for everything.

OTHO, if you have a big stock of common calibers - .223, 7.62 x 39, .308, 30-06, 9mm, 45 ACP, .38 spec. and .357 it could be like money in the bank. It could have barter value way above its weight in gold.

In an average combat small arms firefight you will use 90. In an average combat heavy small arms firefight you will need about 200 rounds.

Seriously, even in any SHTF situation I can't see using more than than 200. Therefore you only really need about 500 for your favorite rifle, and maybe 200 for your favorite pistol. Your mass storage should be 22LR.

+1 on keep 10,000 rounds of 22LR. That will be your main ammo for food, such as rats, pigeon, seagulls, squirrels, cats, dogs, and rabbits. You can even kill deer with a 22LR if you are close enough for headshots.

            Lots.

            (and lots)

I bought a bunch of ammo years ago and the price has more than doubled sitting on it. My minimum is 1000 rounds for my rifle calibers and half that for my pistols but I safely have much more than that.
