    Gun safe concern...

First of all I am in search of a good deal on a gun safe..

I would like to spend around $300-$350 for a rifle/handgun safe like this one..

My concern is that im currently renting and i would like to know if anyone

can suggest another alternative to securing the safe in my residence besides

bolting the safe into the ground. I wish to buy a house in January and would

like when I move out of my current establishment not to leave anything

damaged, in this case the floor/carpet.

    Thanks

I would suggest alarm system, since your moving anyway you can bring the alarm with it and plus bolting it down permanently will bring double security.

If it's carpet and if you carefull you can probably hide the holes when you move out. Depending on the type of carpet.

I was in an apt and had 3 safes bolted down. We moved and nobody said anything. 3 large square imprints on the carpets.

We slit the carpet. Just enough to lift a small patch where it would be bolted down. A little super glue after we moved fixed it.

IMO. A safe that isn't bolted down is pointless... Even a crappy locker style "safe" should be bolted down.

Weight your options. Check out patriot safes in Huntington beach. They have finance options and etc. Good peeps.

If you're moving in less than 2 months, don't bother.

Wait until you're at your house and assess your needs for the kind of safe to purchase at that time.

No point in getting one that fits your needs for less than 2 months, then living with it's shortcomings for the next 15 years.

well the thing is that the sale on the safe i want ends in like 3-4 days... so i would like to buy it now....

how about bolting it to the backwall/stud? I can manage patching up the wall and painting later..

should I just go with a temporary safe, like the "gun vault" brand and secure it to my bed frame with the cable it comes with? I only have 3 handguns as of now..

You have to MOVE the darn thing later as well.

Do you have a locking filing cabinet or anything that locks that might fit your pistols?

As much as I support keeping guns locked up, if you're moving in a few months, I'd suggest NOT spending any money, time, effort on short term "solutions" and just get what you WANT when you have the location/long term position situated.

Get a FIREPROOF safe big enough to place some documents/DVDs in with as well as firearms/gold/jewelry.

If not, then maybe spring for a small FIREPROOF safe large enough to hold about 10" worth of file folders as a "short term solution". Toss the handguns in there and replace with paper documents and documents on DVD later. Yes, someone may simply walk away with a 40lb safe in a planned robbery, but many criminals are just smash and grab and will not have the equipment, time, or planning to crack/load a small safe.

Most likely laptops, cameras, jewelry, cash, etc. The pillowcase stereotype exists because it works and fits the need perfectly.

The robberies where the safe is pulled out the ground are rare. They had to have known it was there in the first place in order to bring the tools necessary to yank it.

Can't guarantee you won't be robbed in the next 2 months, but the chances are likely pretty small.

I would recommend you think practically. However, it's your time, your money, and your energy.

Oh, and there is ALWAYS a sale/deal on a safe somewhere within any 2-3 month window.

Get a 85 lbs, 2 year old female German Shepard from the local pound for under $75. Feed her twice a day (6am, 6pm), plenty of water, lots of exercise. Teach her several basic commands. Let her have free access of the house when you're not home.

                    Nobody's gonna break in, promise.

Who says you've got to bolt it down right away? I assume you currently don't have a safe, so wouldn't it be a step up to just put your guns in your new safe and bolt it down after you relocate.

I got 2 medium dogs that bark at anything...

since i only have 3 handguns, what are my options in terms of security besides a "Tall" expensive safe?

                            I have a gun vault.
Should I just buy 2 more?
