    General Order for Classes, etc.

When ordering a handgun, or rifle, what is the typical pattern of classes. First, do you have to take a handgun class? I have shot before, but have never taken an official class.

I read where someone in another forum has their California Handgun Certificate. Things like that, whats the typical idea of what has to be done? Just making sure I cover all my checklist.

That's the 'Handgun Safety Certificate'; you must have one of those before a dealer may deliver a handgun to you.

    It's trivial.

Depending on where you are and what your interests may be, and to a slight extent your age and physical conditioning, you could start and end with an NRA 'Basic Pistol' class, or you could live at Gunsite a couple weeks a year.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

But if I buy a handgun, I can purchase it and while I am waiting, I can take my class or whatever, right? Also, about how much do those cost?

So long as you have the HSC, there is no other required training.

Up in the SF Bay area, BAYPROFS offers Basic Pistol for $125.

Gunsite? $300/day or something? Yes, their 150 course is $933 for 3 days, in one offering. Varies. Gunsite is sort of the University of California of gun training, without the leftist politics.

Other places offer classes; talk to your local range.

You obviously need a gun to take the class so if you already have one you can. If not, email or call the instructor and explain the situation and they'll usually let you borrow/rent one for a class.

Classes can be anywhere from $30-$500. It really depends. Most for basic handgun will run about $100-$150 after fees, range and ammo.
