Anytime I have to rely on the government to get something "Right", I worry. The DROS is no different.

No. When I lived in CA I knew I had a perfect record, no weird unpaid tickets, and my last name is unique and the only one (other then close family in the area) in the country to have it. Nothing to worry about.
Now that I'm an AZ resident I never worry because gun sales are either cash and carry in a parking lot, or at a gun store fill out the form and pay leave in minutes due to having a CCW (not even an instant 2 min background check is needed if you have a CCW)"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas JeffersonComment

I thought that even though you have a spot to put your SSN on the DROS paperwork that it is never actually submitted to DoJ? Fact is I just went it looked at some archived posts on the subject and yeah CA DoJ never gets it. Just the FFL who has to keep the record stored.
But I understand the nervousness. I have a common name and always worry I will confused with some other person."I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand." --Susan B. Anthony

I assume you are refering to the ten day "gun jail" and not actually going to jail for buying a gun....
The first one I was. Not scared, but nervous about what might come up, rightly or wrongly attributed to me. I was no saint growing up....
That said, I had a secret clearance at one point, I've passed multiple California DROS (I always figured that if you can pass a CA DROS, you're probably good, seeing as they will use anything they can to deny you) I also hold a Federal Firearms License, and the last one that made me a little nervous was my WA state CPL. I hadnt had a fingerprint background check run since I left the military. Of course I passed, so thats just about every background check you can have except NFA stamp which I will be applying for as soon as were back in the states. I still dont think I could get a CA LTC though....Last edited by SanPedroShooter; 11-23-2011, 9:11 AM.Comment

The idea of being put in the pokey scares the crap out of me to be honest. However, I've always managed to stay out of trouble that would land me in such a situation.
The idea of having a firearm DROS'ed does not scare me or make me think that I would be detained for any reason, since my record contains nothing that would cause me to have any feeling besides confidence. Now trusted by 34 out of 50 US States, except for that which is my home...

You put your SSN on the form?

Gun jail time = 1990's era AIDS testing
I'm not bothered by it, actually. I'm more concerned about when I apply for a loan (make sure nothing on there is strange that is killing my credit).Comment

Sorry, when I saw the thread title I thought you meant (real) jail time!
BTW: I heard of a case where a LEO made a mistake in copying the serial number of a firearm (came back stolen), the guy went to jail for a long time. Ouch.Comment
