Advice needed for planning a shoot....

Instead of an obligatory dinner at a restaurant for my birthday this year, I decided to rent a private range at Burro Canyon this year. A little shoot and bbq for my friends. I was expecting about 12 people, but one thing led to another and now there are 25. Not all are shooters, but wives and girlfriends are coming. Buddies are comin, there are a few newbies etc etc.

Long story short need some advice on how I can best keep this get together safe and fun. I got the food and gear all planned out, but not sure the best way to keep people safe and still have fun. Everyone attending (with the exception of one 13 yr old) is an adult with a couple LEOs too. 12 adults are experienced shooters. There are a few first timers tho. I want to have an open shooting session: just set up some targets and have at it. Also would like to set up some targets and have a little run and gun course. Also any suggestions on setin this up would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you will have about an equal number of experienced shooters as new shooters so I would have everyone pair off for individual instruction, start with everyone shooting rimfire first then move to centerfire after everyone knows what they are doing.

IMO having wives and GF's (especially non-shooters) will KILL this thing. You are going to shoot and shoot as much as you can. Wives and GFs aren't interested in that and will detract from that. My advice. You and the boys (or other real shooters of any sex) go out and shoot til you run out of ammo. hang out and BBQ - then go home to the wife etc.

First thing is to arrange some range master candidates out of your group. That way you can have some fun too, just take shifts. Get a list of rules together, and stick to them.

Use a whistle or similar to signal range breaks etc. Stress safety safety safety...make sure rules are enforced.
