Help Me Choose a Gun for LTC

Before anyone says it, I have handled all of these, I like them and they are comfortable to shoot.

After answering the poll please make a post and explain why you feel that firearm is better than the others.

    Here are my requirements:

    1) Semi-automatic (read: no wheel guns)
    2) Subcompact
    3) .40 cal
    4) Respectable mag capacity
    5) Preferrably under $500, but can go up to $600

I am in the market for a single stack 9. I am almost sure I am going with a kel tec (I looked at the Kahr, to expensive), irregardles of any **** talking.

I tried to carry with my G19.... No ****ing way, not unless I gain twenty pounds and go up a shirt size of three (I take it back a little, its do-able, but not easily)... I suddenly had a new found respect for LOC... way easier than CCW.... Maybe I'm just not use to it yet.

I guess thats not really related to your question... but for me, thinner is better, so I'd go with the Kahr.

Width is a consideration for me also because I'm skinny. Even in winter clothing the biggest that I could carry comfortably is my compact SP2022. While the CW40 is the thinnest of the four, I still think that width-wise the others will still be fine.

And we can LOC out here in CO, but I usually avoid it unless I'm in a 'political statement' mood - which happens, just not very often for me. Also, its snowing out here and I don't want to have to sit down and clean my gun just because I wanted to make a political statement, lol

I was set on a g27, but I think that frame and slide is the same width as the 19, just shorter. I also know that the M&P (my second choice) is the about the same as the glock...

The kel tec or kahr is about .88 of an inch. If I could deal with the width, I would have picked the Glock, cause thats what I know. That said, I really like the M&P I saw. I was looking at a LCP, but I just struck me as not quite right.. It may be a personal problem... I'm not sure.

At least you've got options! I am going to have to sacrafice a goat and drink its blood in a toast to Jerry Brown at midnight to get a Kel Tec... In fact thats why I am up so late...

The kahr is a nice low profile gun. It fits comfortably in my hands about $550.00.

A lot of people carry full size pistols. Try out a Beretta PX4 in. 40S&W. It is a great gun.

I voted in your poll for the Smith and Wesson M&P, but the Glock is an equally good choice, IMO. I just happen to be one of those who doesn't like the Glock's grip angle as much, so slight edge to the M&P.

That's actually lookin' like a pretty good one. I'll look into it more.

I'm not generally a Glock fan, but I thought the G27 was pretty nice. The only thing that's holding me back is that its the most expensive.

Get a GSSF membership for two years ($60 or $70 I think) so you automatically qualify for the purchase discount of $425. Depending on taxes in Colorado and background check it could be less than $550 OTD and meet your budget.

So you've shot all of them. Which do you shoot most accurately? Which do you shoot best with follow up shots?

I like my Lightweight Officers ACP (and the equivalent Kimber). Also, the S&W 340PD is easy to conceal and very light. I like myGlock 27, but it's awfully fat. I have bought numerous handguns over the years with concealment in mind, and while it's possible with all of them, it's not necessarily convenient or comfortable.

My personal preference runs to the Springfield EMP or another compact 1911 style gun. In the price range you're looking at I would recommend the M&P with some apex parts. I find the ergonomics much better for follow up shots than the glock 27.

                        M&P 9c

.40 does not offer any practical difference over 9mm yet is more expensive and less fun to shoot quickly accurately.

Is it the concealability or the reload time that puts you off?

I carry a PM9 everyday... But I'm trying things to alter my wardrobe to carry my PX4.
+1 on the PX4 being a great gun.
The Kahr in .40 is very difficult for follow up shots. Especially with hot SD loads. I tried my buddies PM40 and I just couldn't get confident with it for an accurate rapid second shot. The Storm in .40 is easy.

I voted "other".... Sig P239. While not a sub-compact, they are easily concealed, just not in a pocket. Single stack for slimness and up to 10+1 capacity in 9, 7+1 in .40. With either a DAO or DAK trigger it is a very effective tool for the purpose.

Tiny Kahr's in .40 are not fun to shoot, and they are (IMO) better suited to deep concealment / back up than they are to a primary carry.
