Those rounds are explosives, I have to side on the school with this one. They have a policy and she violated it, and then broke the rules again and rather stupidly parked in a place where she would be ticketed. I'd have to say its nobody's fault but her own.

Ohhh Lord........... I hope you just forgot to put the smiley in place.

MILLIONS of rounds were taken to schools long before the anti's came into power...and gues what? NOTHING happend.

Doesn't mean she didn't violate school policy by bringing explosive objects to school, regardless of the likelihood of them going off or not. I'm not saying I agree with the policy (I leave 9mm in my car by accident all the time when I go to class) but that doesn't change the fact that she messed up and its her fault.

Oh no doubts...but there WAS a time where the SPIRIT of the law was invoked rather than the letter...as to there was a time when the actual offense was looked at in times/in light of the actual-ness. I mean Olympian Shooter with shells in the car vs. juvi convicted known gang banger on parol with 9mm in the car.

Rules are rules; usually there ARE exeptions put in for the NON_tards in the world to make the <otherwise unfair> rules at least somewhat paletable..........

But this "ONE rule for everyone regardless of the circumstances" rather flies in the face of good ol' common sence, common practice, common law, and everyday's of this mighta been a good one to just of had her and/or her parents come pick her and the stuff up from school without making a huge case over it..........

Car is my property. Why do you care what's inside my car?

And I would definitely not consider some shotshells an explosion. I'd be more worried about the 10+ gallons of gasoline that could be used to murder innocent children if it fell in the hands of someone with a ratchet and a butane torch!

Man, looks like we need to ban gas tanks coming within 1,000 feet of any school!

You are kidding, right? Those rounds contain smokeless powder which is a flamable propellent, not an explosive! There is a big difference. That's why most gunshops can sell smokeless powder but not blackpowder.

This kind of thing really bothers me... On one hand I feel "hey, ammunition is NOT a dangerous device.... keeping it on your car should NOT be an issue, wtf?" But then there is another part that says "well, the rules ARE the rules... break them and face the consequences.." Then I think "But, she's a GOOD student, with a GOOD academic record... let it slide." And then a part says "BUT, that doesn't mean they HAVE to let is slide." Then I think "But that's just stupid." And I stop talking to myself at that point. . .

Well, here I am, in defense of the girl. So she had some shotgun shells in her car, big deal, I've got close to a thousand rounds of various ammo in my trunk, WITHOUT THE GUN. I would defend her even if she wasn't a competetive shooter just on the issue itself.

I've already voiced my opinion with the school, and was trying to get thru to the radio station when they were talking about it as well, no luck there.

Explosives? They won't explode without a gun. They'll burn, but not "BOOM!".

And the rule is absolutely ridiculous. It should be stricken, and whoever wrote it should be caned for writing it.

What about the 10 gallons of gasoline in the car? Thats equivalent to 10 sticks of dynamite? And that poison in the crankcase and radiator?

If a school is going to have problems, it will be people, not things, causing them.
