AK Pistol Under 21

Is it legal to bend up your own AK47 flat into a pistol if you are under 21. I know you can won a pistol if you are over 18 through a family transfer so I am unsure. Tried running a search and couldn't find any info, thanks.

I'm curious to know this too, a guy at work was asking me. If it is legal I bet you still need to get an HSC

OK, as far as i've been able to dig up is that CA has no specific laws banning it if you build your own firearm.

I've emailed the ATF on the issue, and their response was pretty much to the effect that if you can own the gun legally that you can build it.

As CA law allows an 18 year old to OWN a pistol you should be able to build one. The ATF worded it quite specifically to say that as long as you can own and possess the firearm, and never mentioned that you had to be able to PURCHASE, so it should be legal.

You will need your HSC at least, as that is a requirement in CA to get pistols at 18 through the intrafamiliar transfer.

12801. (a) As used in this article, the following definitions shall apply: (1) "Department" means the Department of Justice. (2) "DOJ Certified Instructor" or "certified instructor" means a person designated as a handgun safety instructor by the Department of Justice pursuant to subdivision (d) of Section 12804. (b) No person shall do either of the following: (1) Purchase or receive any handgun, except an antique firearm, as defined in paragraph (16) of subsection (a) of Section 921 of Title 18 of the United States Code, without a valid handgun safety certificate. (2) Sell, deliver, loan, or transfer any handgun, except an antique firearm, as defined in paragraph (16) of subsection (a) of Section 921 of Title 18 of the United States Code, to any person who does not have a valid handgun safety certificate. (c) Any person who violates subdivision (b) is guilty of a misdemeanor. (d) The provisions of this section are cumulative, and shall not be construed as restricting the application of any other law. However, an act or omission punishable in different ways by different provisions of this code shall not be punished under more than one provision.

If you create a gun, you're not receiving it from anyone, so I'd say you're good to go. Maybe someone else should chime in here. But it's not hard to get an HSC and you'll want to get one eventually anyway so just go get it over with.

I posted mine last December but got alot of emails warning me to remove the pictures from the chicken-littles here. There's safety in numbers and a show in tell thread might get more prople to understand that these are legal.
