Don't worry, I'll take good care of it, but it will be my primary sidearm if the zombie apocalypse happens. Glocks don't like reloads, Kimber is pricy, and it might be hard to find parts for a Bersa after the apocalypse. Maybe XD? Ruger or RIA 1911? I might consider a 9mm because the ammo is cheaper and more plentiful, but .45 would be more effective against the undead. Recommendations?

That's the plan. So that's one vote against Springfield 1911 and one vote for Kimber. Thanks!

I didn't know that. I thought reloads were verboten in Glockland. Thanks for posting!

Good point. After vanquishing the zombie hordes, it will fall on us to repopulate the world again. I will plan accordingly.

Good points. I do love the G17/G19 and I'm a better shot with 9mm than .45, but I'm concerned about the availability of Glock-compliant ammo after the apocalypse. I believe kemikalembalance has good advice of getting a gun that "eats everything".

Not to be argumentative, but extensive research has shown that the zombie infection is in the brain and that's why they want to eat your brains. The most effective way of neutralizing the living dead is by either a shot to the head, severing the head from the neck, shotgun blast to the face, or machete through the skull. Driving over their face with a tracked vehicle also works, but tracked vehicles can be hard to find and maintain after SHTF. They're also too high profile.

Therefore, I'd rather run a 9mm Glock with a 33rd mag, as a head shot from that won't be much different than a head shot from a .45 ACP round to the head of a zombie coming at you.

Even if you use a .45 pistol that holds 13-15 rounds (or 17-18 rounds with a mag extension), it's still going to be a lot less than a 33rd mag and probably weigh about the same or more than the 33rd 9mm mag.
Food for thought. Now I'm starting to rethink 9mm. It is cheaper and more plentiful than .45. I am also more likely to get a head shot with a 9mm. Kalifornia probably won't be enforcing the 10 round mag limit after the zombie infection begins anyways. Thanks!

RIA 1911A1, when you run out of ammo you can still pistol whip them... Seriously though, I have a Milspec RIA that I had a trigger job and reliability workup done by gunsmith for $100.00 then I added a beavertail, skeleton hammer and strut, grips, 18 lb. recoil spring, full length guide rod (kept original parts for replacement after the Zombies come)... In all, I have less than $600 into it and I would put it up against any $1000 1911 out there. In fact, I was offered a straight up trade for a Kimber Ultra Carry a couple months ago and turned it down... Start with a basic RIA 1911, trigger job and reliability job... That's all you really need... My Dad bought the new RIA Tactical (@ $500) cause he liked mine so much. I haven't shot it but from handling it, I think it's a very solid pistol... He's put 650+ rounds through it without a hiccup...

The Glock manual specifically states that you void your warranty by shooting reloads.

If I were taking on the zombie hoards, I can only think of one .45ACP firearm I'd want....

                      Or maybe this:

combined with a quality 1911, G21, HK or Sig for ammo compatibility.

Honestly, a 9mm to the head will do a great job against the living dead, plus you can hold more rounds.

Also, have you thought of a .40 cal? In between round.

                        I recommend a S&W M&P in either 9mm or 40

Might as well get an airsoft gun so that you can pretend shoot at pretend zombies.

+1 on the RIA except you start with the tactical and skip all the middle steps.

only thing ive had done on my tactical is got the front site replaced with a fiber optic, and the rear site replaced with a low pro 2 dot site.

ive had maybe 3 FTF's (i only shoot wolf and the primers were bad) and FTE's (maybe 2) out of about 5k rounds.
