I went with FlyBoy, so I'll jump and answer your questions.

The "campsite" is really just a large parking area. There are no facilities or hookups. You need to be totally self-contained. No water, no bathroom facilities. The good news is that it is free to stay there and you are right next to the gate.

Next time I go, I will probably stay in Pahrump. The drive is really not that long at all. Especially compared to the 13 hours it took us to drive there from the Bay Area. If you flew in the night before and flew out after the last class, you could shave two days from your trip versus driving both ways.

Just a few additional questions I had about the camp site.....

    1) Is the camp sight only for tents? Or can you park an RV or use a trailer there?

    2) Are there full working bathrooms & showers there?

    3) If you can drive an RV there, do they have hookups available (water, power, sewer)?

    4) How much do they charge per day/night there?

    5) How far is the camp site from the Front Sight facility? Is it walking distance or do you really need some form of transportation, either a car or some ATV's?

I would have to agree with Adam. Next time I go it will be a stay in Pahrump. Like he said, it really is not that far and Frontsight has worked out some discounts at some of the hotels for their students. Lots of good eateries around. For this one trip it was five dudes and we made an adventure out of it. It was fun. If you live closer like LA or something like that, it would be worth making a camp trip out of it if you have a self contained rig. Do plan on using lots of water though. It is dusty and you will definitely want to shower if you have one in your rig.

Another thing to consider for people who want to go is the technique they teach, which is the Weaver Stance. They also want you to keep your thumbs pointed up to avoid causing a malfunction by pressing on the safety or slide stop.

In our class, I was the only one who was pretty set on staying with the Isosceles / thumbs-forward method. I tried their technique for the first day, but could not maintain adequate control and decided to stick with what I have been trained on in the past. The instructor strongly suggested I try their method for the full class, but didn't seem to have an issue when I politely declined. I think it helped that I was shooting fairly well.

Even though I did not adopt their preferred method, I still thought it was a great class. I learned a lot and got some good practice at drawing from concealment and making rapid aimed shots. I would also recommend the class to anyone with the time and inclination.

Great write up; it was very accurate. All I have to add is bring sunscreen and lots of it. Nearly half of my class was burnt on the arms, neck and back of their legs.

Having been to a FS class, I've stayed in both Pahrump and Vegas. The commute from Vegas wasn't bad and took about 35-40 min. If you have a bit of energy left over from the classes, the hotel and dining options are nicer in LV. Of course, I did manage to get my dry fire practices in. :-) If you're short on ammo, supposedly the Walmart in Pahrump sells most in the nation. It's open 24x7, so pick some up after class.
