Yet another Front Sight review - just got back

Great write up.
I have been to 3 classes. 2 of the Def handgun, and a Tac shotgun. Made Graduate the second time at the handgun and DG in the shotgun. Taking my daughter there first week in December. Can't wait. Hope it isn't too cold.WARNING: This post will most likely contain statements that are offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense, and or maturity.

Great write-up, well written with good tips!
Thanks!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

Did you buy the coupon for the class or do you have a Diamond Membership??
I heard if you have the Diamond membership you get 40% off everything in the pro shop.
Does anyone use 10 round magazines in class???Comment

If you have a diamond membership with the discount it turns your price from horrible into average gunshop or slightly better pricing. I think the extra box of 9mm I had to buy for my 2 day class was $14.
That sucks about only 10% getting DG to take further classes. I guess maybe taking the 2 day first and then going back for the 4 day might not be a waste since it probably gives me a better shot at getting DG. The tricky part is many of the advanced classes are 2 day which I can swing. Its really hard to get about 5 days free to go take the longer class.

You can have a fire in a grill or portable fire pit but no open fires on the ground. Yes you can ride ATVs into the school and it is a short hop. There is tons of room in the camping area. Can't even image it ever getting close to filling up. I do not have a membership but I am thinking about getting one cause I will be going again and again. I think at least one trip a year minimum is in order for me. I think the hot tip is to prepare for the class in advance and you will have a shot at making DG. I came just two shots short of it and I was just rushing a bit. If you are an average shooter with some experience, I think it is very doable. Pay attention and do what they show you and apply it and you can make it. I think the biggest thing you can do in advance is to practice the malfunctions in the dry practice manual. I think that was the killer for most people. If I had made it through those on time, the DG would have been a cake walk. Knowing the drill and having a well equipped weapon is the key to getting through those. Looking forward to going back.Comment

Excellent report!
Didn't you read the various "Glock mods" threads hereI was shooting a Glock 19. If I had an extended magazine release and an extended slide lock, I believe I would have made the DG designation, as I just barely missed it on time with the malfunctions.
j/k

Regarding magazines; many people were there from out of state and had hicap mags. I have some old preban hicaps for my newer Glock 19 but they don't drop free. I used my 10 rounders but had three of them. That worked just fine and better than the hicaps that would not drop free. But there were also people shooting 1911s with lower round count mags and smaller guns with 6-7 round counts so tens are no problem.Comment

Gman, wish I had read the thread about mods. I would have had better success but no worries, I was near the top of the class and felt good about that. I wasn't necessarily aiming for the DG cause I figured it was out of reach. It was only after I got my score that I went "dang" I almost made it. I consider myself an average shooter but did very well. I was with other shooters that I consider to be better but I scored higher. So there is something to be said about staying cool under pressure. It isn't all about shooting.Comment

If I go to Front Sight, I may now consider the camping area as an option so I don't have worry about hotels in Pahrump getting filled up, and not worry about the long drive to & from the hotel every day.
Just a few additional questions I had about the camp site.....
1) Is the camp sight only for tents? Or can you park an RV or use a trailer there?
2) Are there full working bathrooms & showers there?
3) If you can drive an RV there, do they have hookups available (water, power, sewer)?
4) How much do they charge per day/night there?
5) How far is the camp site from the Front Sight facility? Is it walking distance or do you really need some form of transportation, either a car or some ATV's?Comment
