Why not ACU?

Apparently the Army discontinued the ACU pattern for use. Everyone is selling their ACU for dirt cheap, too.

Sure, the pattern itself isn't that "attractive" or realistic. But it isn't as bad as wearing a BLACK vest out in most of CA. Or Ranger green or even Coyote brown is a little too dark for most CA terrain.

So what gives?

Am I an idiot for just buying an Eagle CIRAS in ACU for $200? Maybe I can dye it if it's that silly to run ACU these days.

From my own anecdotal and non-scientific study, ACU makes you stand out, not blend in. I could spot an Army dismounted patrol from hundreds of meters away thanks to their nifty blue-grey non-camoflauge.

OD green / Grey is the best anyway.

The ACU cammies where a horrible pattern. Almost as bad as the Navy's blue pattern.

The Navy's pattern at least had a purpose.. it was made so that if they got the most common colors of Naval paint on them that the uniforms would have to be trashed. At least that's what I remember from when the uniforms were introduced.

One of the problems with the UCU uniform is that the shades of tan, gray, and light green in the pattern quickly fade to light gray and darker gray so that the wearer is ready for service in a gravel pit but no where else. The uniform itself is comfortable to wear but not durable at all.

I heard rumors a while back that they were looking to switch to Multi-cam. Hopefully that's the case. Regardless I'm looking forward to all the surplus gear that should be hitting the market if they do change patterns.

Rumors are like *******s. Everyone has one and they all smell funny. They have been talking about ditching UCP for a long time yet we still have that pattern on our ACU's. There has been rumors of multi-cam, A-tacs, and the Marine pattern (dont hate, the Army paid for them ) I would like to see a link to an article about big army actually officially changing the uniform and not an article of the Army just testing them.

The Army hasn't yet picked a new camoflauge pattern to replace the old pattern. For now, units deploying to Afghanistan will wear Multicam uniforms, which the Army refers to as OCP. (Operation Enduring Freedom Combat Pattern) http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/0...ticam-082210w/

I personally have never found the smell of anyone's ******* "funny."

Well I see how acu may be limiting. But ill just dye it or rattlecan my stuff tan. Might end up nice for CA terrain.
