That's the risk associated with being a security guard. But it's not like the average shoplifter draws a firearm over being confronted for taking a bag of chips and a soda, although it could happen.

Here's another property crime that people, esp. armed guards, and injured or killed over:

    Bank robberies.

You make it seem like property crimes are shallow and aren't worth hiring armed guards to patrol and prevent or enforce against them being committed.

You must not have much to live for if you are willing to die for some one elses property. Time for a little education; robbery is not a property crime, it is a crime against a person. I have never seen a bank robbed but I have seen a bank teller robbed of a banks proprerty. A robbery is the taking o goods or services by force or fear thus making it a crimes persons case. A bank robbery is just about as far as you can get from someone just walking out of a 7-11 without paying for his cup.

In summery, no a BS property crime is not worth my life.

^ ^ ^ For some people, it's their life, and they choose the dangers associated with whatever job, because it's a job. Not everyone wants those jobs, for obvious reasons.

Just stay armed, stay frosty, and let the sheeple ask their silly questions and go on their fat, dumb, and happy way.

Next time you are asked that question, just pull out your weapon and show them how serious you are while chanting
"This is my weapon, and this is my gun"
"This one's for shooting, and this one's for fun"
            They'll understand immediately.

Isn't that inappropriate handling of a gun?

Yes, Sheeple are dumb & say dumb things OP. I had a woman move to the far corner of an elevator car once, when I mentioned to my buddy I went to a shooting match.

              Speaking of half guns,
When I was in the Navy, standing Roving Security Watch on ship. A couple Gunner's Mates came back drunk. I was talking to them & they offered to show me a couple things about my .45. So the guy field strips it, then I realize I have to report back in NOW, to the Quarterdeck. Luckily the holster was the flap over type. I reported in with a Salute, "Roving Patrol-All Secure, Sir", with just a frame & a magazine in the holster.....
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

My life is worth much more then a 40oz and a bag of chips. We aren't required to chase thieves and I didn't. The manager was outside with the subject and when I went out the subject tried to run. The manager tripped him then I had no choice but to handcuff the subject because he already proved he wasn't going to cooperate. This is just a job. I'm not a sworn officer and I would like to go home to my family every night .

Question is, is the perp's life worth more than the bag of chips? Obviously, he doesn't think so or he wouldn't have been trying to steal them with a guard present. Someone with that mentality is completely unpredictable.

The perp was much more predictable wearing handcuffs.....

"why would you ask me that". That's great, funny stories while I'm on night shift help it go by quicker.

When I see a security guard with a gun, I stop and politely ask him what he's carrying (if I didn't already recognize it). Polite chats ensue. I tell them "have a nice day" and go on my way.

The unarmed guards are as much a deterrent as an armed guard. There response will be different, but still a significant deterrent.

I stopped trying to figure out why people do the things they do a long time ago

I go about my business and smile

I'm a lot happier for it

I'm not trying to make this a life long career, I only applied because I figured this job would be a pretty good part time job and experience.

Yes, you are correct. I'm not prepared for what people would say(exception is ”rent a cop” or something similar). No, a pistol isn't going to save me from a motivated aggressor but atleast I'll have some type of defense if it's needed. Obviously, I'll need more defense training with my defense tools so it would become second nature.

Sadly security guards have low requirements and probably I am in over my head. Everyone starts somewhere and that's just how some would learn, I guess.

I'm not guarding a bank or a mini mart with potential aggressors, so I'll probably be okay with any situation where my pistol would be needed. If the threat is present and my life or the life of another is in immediate jeopardy then I'll have to do what I need to do to stop that threat. Like I said before I'm not a sworn officer so I'm not required to do any of that but I'm sure my conscience wouldn't stop bothering me if I could have prevented an innocent life being taken.

This is just a job, I'm not a hero. I'm only there to observe, report and be a deterrent.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize there were so many sheeples out there.
