” Is that a real gun?”

I was recently hired as an armed guard and noticed how often people would ask if my gun is real. When I tell them ”yes, it's real” sometimes they say ”are you serious?” in response. Heck, the other day there was a customer who asked ” is that half a gun that you are carrying?” I was speechless. Do people really feel that security guards don't need to be armed? I had to handcuff a guy for not cooperating after he try to take off with a 40oz of beer and a bag of chips. The LEO showed up and found out the guy is on parole, for a violent crime. People don't seem to understand they're walking next to parolees or sex offenders.

Big +1 on that. We live in a state full of ignorant, blind, dependent (some cases willingly) upon the system sheeple. They need to wake the hell up, but some like to stay blind, it would seem.

Gun's are bad. You should know that by now. That's why people are so amazed at the fact that you have a gun.

Funny you mention that. I was in a gun store a while back that shall remain nameless and I was browsing around. A guy walked in and was looking around like he had never seen a gun before. The guy working the counter was carrying in a OWB holster and the customer looks at him and says it that thing real. The guy says sure is and drops the mag and shows him. The guy looked stunned and walked out of the shop. I looked at the employee and laughed and kept looking around.

I don't understand why anyone would carry a fake gun? Seems like that could get you in a sticky situation and not have the means to get yourself out.

I would be speechless too if I only got to carry half a gun.
One of my buddies parks in the red at his house and I told him that his patrol can tow him. he said no I'm a resident they cant tow. Sure enough two days later he got towed.

unfortunately people have the mentality of its just a rent a cop they have no power whatsoever.

i did your job, back in the 80's and 90's, and had several of those type questions. i have responded ' well how did that get there?' and 'i tried to keep it locked in a room, but it keeps following me to work'.

When someone asks a stupid question - Simply reply with "Why would you ask me that...?"

                  Their answers are very interesting....

I highly recommend doing this. I used to get all sorts of dumb questions working retail. Their responses to "Why would you ask that?" are always better than the initial dumb question.

Guards that aren't armed are completely useless. I always laugh when I see the 70 year old "guard" standing in the front of safeway, trader joes, etc.

Not in any type of security business, but I, too have used the "what type of question is that?" response when someone asks a stupid question.

                          A mighty +1 to that.

I was talking to a friend of mine who "believes in" the 2nd Amendment but who has a million reasons not to buy a gun.

Showed her an online sex offender map of her neighborhood.

                          She tripped out.

Thought they were all in prison.

                          They aren't.

Neither are all the "violent" criminals in prison.

Some have not been caught yet.

                          Some have been released.

Should not be a revelation but is to some.

My question is, are you ready to die to protect the loss of a 40oz and a bag of chips? It would be a shame to be hurt or die over a property crime.
