If you're shooting out in the desert, why not buy a steel target?

Sure they're expensive, but the cost evens out after awhile.

Fire extinguishers are a lot of fun. They contain a bunch of powder and "Poof" everytime you hit them. Plus they come in a variety of sizes which helps at farther distances.

Shaving cream cans, or anything you can find @ the $1 go great. Bottles w/ water work fine for me but they tend to get heavy. Balloons work to keep in interesting for my wife.
          Metal is also always fun.

In the scouts we used to shoot at hot co-co packets, if you want a smaller target you could also shoot at packets of coffee creamer.

Balloons or small envelopes filled with flour, baking soda, baby powder, etc should be fairly visible. But I'm leaning more towards small balloons of tannerite just taped to the back of the target... just brings a smile to my face.

Poof? LOL. I shoot reactive targets that explode. Poofing is for legislators and those wierd guys that wear pink.

Buy some Tannerite and go to the desert.

You can make homemade play oh very easily and dye the
Whatever color you want. Shape the
However you like and leave them out for say or so and they'll harden right up. After you shoot them you don't need to clean them up if you are lazy as they are basically bread with food coloring. The first rain will get rid of them (or birds and bugs)

I tried the talc in a bag. It sort of worked. It gave the smallish little wisp of powder on a hit. My fault, I didn't put enough talc in the baggie.

I think a balloon with talc/powder and blown up would have worked better. That or the homemade play-doh. At least that would have exploded into tiny pieces.
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Great idea.... start asking for extra cream and sugar when you are out and save them for the next shoot...

Talked to our bomb squad guys about tannerite and have confirmed it is illegal, same with the district attorneys office stating the same. The compounds are fine separate but once you mix them, you have created an explosive which is a huge no no in this state! Same deal with dry ice or MRE bombs. You guys are playing with fire if using this stuff in CA, already had some people sent to jail for the stuff out here, heres the associated California Penal Code
