    PVC target stand bases

Has anyone ever used a simple PVC base and filled it with cement? If so, what would you recommend filling it with? Does it even work that well?

I'm going to be making some of those myself and was just thinking about using sandbags if needed.

I used to use sandbags, but my friends kept throwing them away when we'd clean up -_-. It's still an option, but I don't wanna have to keep getting them

Cement is going to be too heavy.

Just use some 1.5" PVC for the base and use firring strips to hold the target.

Drill a hole in the base and secure it with a tent stake.

Works fine until you take it to Burro and it gets shot up.

good luck with the tent stakes at burro, a buddy of mine tried that last time and the ground was so hard that he ended up bending half the stakes...i usually just find rocks to hold down the bases.

1 lb lead ingots fit inside the pvc snugly so thats what i used, 4 lbs per target and if you screw them in place you never have to worry about carrying anything other than the target frame

What are you guys shooting with? I'm putting one together for a 9mm that I haven't purchased yet (future planning).
I'm also putting one together for a shotgun, I figured I would use 2 1/2- 3 inch pipe with a few sandbags.

+1 for rocks, Burro has no shortage of them there and they work just fine.

No cement, rocks are fine. I also never glue anything together and keep extra pieces handy.

Cement will be a problem. Just use sandbags to hold them down, and don't put them in a place where they can be shot up by others. You're GTG then.

I've placed misc metal strips inside on each side of the pvc pipe works out fine for me. And I leave all the parts unglued, so if anything get's shot up I can just pull apart and replace as needed.

not about what guns we are using, it is to stop it from tipping over each time a gust of wind kicks up. target stands are like sails on a boat when the wind picks up.

this is why i built mine out of wood. weighs 10lbs by itself, and with a wide base so it doesn't tip over easily. only downside is that it takes me a few minutes to set it up with the nut/bolts.

I use sand to fill the PVC for weight.

If the targets can't stand on their own then the bases aren't big enough and/or it's too tall. You need a bigger base/foundation or use smaller cardboard cutouts. The ones I made stand up to 30/40 mph wind without weights and they're just stuck together. No glue, no screws that way you can readily change out damaged pieces. This also negates transportation concerns because they can be broken down and put together at the range.
