Birthday Gun Ideas

Today I turn 40. My wife told me to pick out a gun up to $500. I honestly can't think of anything. Last year I sold my motorcycle and used that money to put together a pretty nice collection (thanks to the Marketplace and some really nice Calgunners).

Handguns are covered from .22 - 44mag. Rifles are covered from lever guns to military weapons.

Its tough, I'm not sure what to do. I guess we could always just go look.

One thing that I'm missing is a .17HMR. That round always intrigued me. That .45 Bob posted has me tempted. I've got a 9 and a 40 that I really like. I've got a 45LC, but not a .45.

Any other suggestions before we head out to some gun stores?

I bought a Mossberg 817, .17HMR, just to have a .17HMR, and haven't done much with it. I have a Savage .22WMR and it is a much better rifle. If I had it to do over again I would have spent more money and bought the Savage in .17HMR over the Mossberg.

.17 HMR is an interesting round but pricey if you are just plinking.

I agree, but its cheaper than the .308's I burn through (FAL & M1A). I figure $500 spent right could get me something average in bigger calibers or something high end in something smaller. I originally told her I was happy with what I had and didn't need anything new, then I sobered up.

What good are all those guns if you don't have any ammo? If you scarce on ammo, I would spend it on that.

Three years is a long time to wait for a 1911 though.
I'm supposed to wait for my birthdays for firearms... Its not working out so well.
