Talked to our bomb squad guys about tannerite and have confirmed it is illegal, same with the district attorneys office stating the same. The compounds are fine separate but once you mix them, you have created an explosive which is a huge no no in this state! Same deal with dry ice or MRE bombs. You guys are playing with fire if using this stuff in CA, already had some people sent to jail for the stuff out here, heres the associated California Penal Code
18720. Every person who possesses any substance, material, or any
combination of substances or materials, with the intent to make any
destructive device or any explosive without first obtaining a valid
permit to make that destructive device or explosive, is guilty of a
felony, and is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h)
of Section 1170 for two, three, or four years.Comment

I first heard of this stuff in the last few weeks. The person telling me was convinced it was totally legal here in California.
I told the individual to keep their mouth shut and to keep it locked in a safe - I don't see any way that DA, judge, or jury is going to think that it is legal to do final prep of the stuff or to set it off.CGN's token life-long teetotaling vegetarian. Don't consider anything I post as advice or as anything more than opinion (if even that).Comment

It's only as illegal as the local LEOs and DAs say it is; which has been reported to be anywhere from perfectly fine to a serious felony in CA (much like many things in CA). I have not heard of problem on the Federal/ATF level, has anyone?
