And if so, what were the circumstances involved? I'd just like to hear some stories that's all.

Has anyone ever had their SAFE broken into?

I doubt many people here have a real safe. Those cheap metal things with 10 gauge sides are not safes, though they are marketed as such.sigpic

Mine is a sentry for cash etc and I don't expect it to hold up to a serious attempt to break in. Its to slow down/discourage/keep potential casual thieves like workmen or management out of my bidnass.
On youtube there's a vid of a cheap gun safe getting broken into in a minute or less.
I'm sure there's prolly a youtybe vid to break into my safe too

Same here, AND it's supposedly fire-rated for 30 min. Forgot what temp, though. Mine's just to stop a smash-n-grab and to keep away from children, etc. I can't afford a real safe.Last edited by epcii; 08-18-2011, 10:54 PM.sigpic

I built my safe, no 10ga steel, it doesn't look like a safe either, half of it is a safe, half is a newspaper rack...I'm also building an armory room in my house, lining the walls with 1/4" steel, custom steel door, and bolted together from the inside with angle iron...will take pictures and such when it's done

here's a tease of the "portable" safe, in actuality, 250lbs unloaded isn't very portable carrying down stairs lol
After it was done

Lock cage that shrouds an expensive already shrouded lock

Inside after "fortification" and trim pieces, before lock cage install

You seldom hear about an actual safe getting broke into---as mentioned earlier, metal locking cabinets are not safes, but far better than nothing---keeps the smash and grab junkie types away, but the serious thieves will get in. Real safes are a much tougher customer---thicker steel, better locks, can be fire resistant and they weigh a lot more. Bolted down, a real safe is your best bet. Even a locksmith takes a while to get into a real safe.Comment

Absolutely, we have 3 safes in the house now, and after our armory room we'll be set...it takes a while to get through steel unless you used to be an ironworker and have some det cord and blasting capsYou seldom hear about an actual safe getting broke into---as mentioned earlier, metal locking cabinets are not safes, but far better than nothing---keeps the smash and grab junkie types away, but the serious thieves will get in. That safe is killer. I wish I could run a bead like that! I think subterfuge and 250lbs of steel ought to keep whatever's inside safe!youtube channel and subscribe! :-)Comment

yeah, it doesn't look like a safe is the main reason I built it, the top is just a magazine rack
