    Dros Question

So I did at PPT at the Vacaville Shooting Gallery at 10am on Sunday 9/30, they told me that the DROS system was down however and that they would process it as soon as it came back up and call me. It has since been 2 days 10/2 and still no phone call, they still haven't DROS'ed the gun. It seems to me a bit odd that the entire CA DROS system would be down for 2 days, and I called in yesterday and the guy who answered said that the "DROS system" was still down. I specifically asked him if it was their system and not the entire CA system, and he said it was not just their system. Is this BS? or what? They've had my gun for 3 days now and it still hasn't been processed? I'm a little peeved. Anyone had this experience before? Anyone else try to DROS a gun in the past 3 days?

I use to work at a FLL store, and it is true....The whole system does go down.

Yep and it really sucks when it does. However, they can call in the DROS to the DOJ.
      Please, calm down.

My FFL couldn't log a DROS on a shotgun for me, because he was locked out from logging in. His FFL01 had expired, because the DoJ had lost his payment and let the license expire. He had to FedEx overnight all his paperwork and payment to get his license re-instated again. As a result, it turned into a 14 day wait. He gave me a couple of free gunlocks for the inconvenience. It was no big deal.

I was under the impression that it was MCI DROS or nothing now a days. I don't think you can call them in anymore. Here is something useful to read.

If you have a DOJ issued computer it says you can call in the information, but I don't have one.

It also states that your ten days only begin when your information is submitted and the dealer receives back a DROS number. So even if you fill out the worksheet, your ten days don't begin until the system is up again.

I have been out of the shop for two days, but my partner has not reported problems with DROS. I just logged in from home and see she ran one on Monday and two on Tuesday.

It appears your FFL is the only one with problems. Like I have said before, I have never had DROS be down on me. I have had Internet problems, but I have never seen DROS down. Some people claim it happens, but it must be rare enough I haven't seen it occur in two years.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Similar situation happened to me. My local license was due to expire 7/31/07. DOJ sent me a reminder on 7/01/07. I got my local license renewed and sent a copy up to Sacramento. Everythings OK, right? WRONG. A few weeks ago (9/15/07), I got a notice that I had been deactivated from the Centralized Dealer's Listing because the local license was expired. I called to BOF and they were about as sympathetic as a great white shark taking out an elephant seal. Which is to say not at all!! "Not their problem. They never received anything. Blah, Blah, Blah." The lady on the phone (supposedly the only one who could re-activate me) told me I had to send the license and a $20 re-listing fee. So, because of their incompetence, I was without DROS access for nearly a week and $20 poorer. Our tax dollars at work again.

Ive seen DROS go down a few times, usually doesnt last that long, longest time I remember was like for 3 days. Ive seen it happen in Sacto where Im at, but thats probably because iggy was playing solitare on the BOF computers. . . .

Yea... it's just their system that's down, he said it might not be up till Monday! :-/ But at least he offered to throw in some free range time and ammo... unfortunately for me it's a .22lr so throwing in some ammo isn't a huge thing. The total wait is going to be 18 days which is insane.

Tell him to take it home and run it on his home computer. Heck, I might have even been known to run DROS at public institutions before. Lets not talk about that ever again though.
