        we live out in the sticks, foxtails are common out here, not much we can do about foxtails, we just hope he doesn't pick up more

              I love dogs as much as the next guy but they have their shortcomings. If you have NOT trained them to stay away from food thrown over the fence then they can be taken out in short order. I'm not a dog trainer so don't ask me how to do it.
              Things usually turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out.

                That reminds me of a story...not too long ago when I was married, me and my ex wife had a bloodhound, we were visiting at my dads place and he threw out marshmallow creme IIRC over the deck (we throw out a ton of fruit/vegatables since the deer eat it and get fat and taste better lol), the bloodhound got into it, got it all over his face, my dads pit went out and while they were both chowing down, the pit bit the bloodhound through his nasal cavity...I think the pit thought that the bloodhound was food since he was covered in tasty stuff lol
