Exposed Carry in CA

This is a common topic, and one of somewhat heated debate on this forum. What it comes down to is YES it is perfectly legal as long as your loaded magazines are also carried exposed (not concealed). Also you must make sure you are not within 1000' of any K-12 school property line. That does not mean the building, that means whatever property the school owns. They could own the empty lot across the street, which extends the school zone unknowingly far further than you thought.see this is why i was very hesitant to join this Forum im already part of another Forum that has a firearms section and most of my questions were being answered there but as far as some legal issues Especially Questions about CA laws not too mean members knew or had an answer for me
The caution is because if you get caught with your open carried firearm within an unmarked school zone, you will lose your right to possess a firearm. You will have to get rid of all your guns and it will be many years before you can even touch one again. You won't even be able to touch a gun your friend owns for many years.
Also even though it is legal, unless you are in a very rural area you will almost certainly have the police arrive. People who open carry normally have a video camera rolling the entire time, because its very common for the police to approach with guns aimed at you, fingers on the trigger, right before you get cuffed. There are few police departments who do not treat this similar to a felony stop. You'll likely be treated like you just shot someone even though you haven't broken any laws.
The reaction in this thread to you is because you obviously don't understand what you're getting into, plus there are hundreds of threads on this topic already so you must not have even looked for one yet. This should not be done unless you are very very serious about it, and have spent CONSIDERABLE time researching all school zones in your area.Last edited by stix213; 08-10-2011, 3:55 PM.Comment
