shooting on BLM land

I'm not a big fan of the BLM thing only b/c of the numerous examples (Bee Canyon video) etc. where rangers either take your guns wrongfully, or harass you for whatever reason. Couple that with the possibility of mistakenly trespassing etc. makes this a difficult endeavor. Not to mention that there really isn't any "legal" shooting on BLM land within 2 hours of OC.
Rent a private range at Burro or hit Lytle or Angels and be done with it.

+1, one time I though I was on bml and a hillbilly in the middle of nowhere shot back at me. just go to a range and stay safe!

why are all these peple hating on BLM land for target shooting? this is one of the last and best firearms freedoms us california residents have. being safe and aware of your surroundings, having a good backstop and picking up what you brought in is all that is needed to have a great time. good luck!

I love shooting on BLM land - do it all the time.

I have emails from 3 different offices depending on where I go.

Printed them for exact locations, keep copies of my registered "assault rifle" paperwork and copy of flowchart with me just in case an uninformed ranger wants to chat.

Follow a couple of their rules and have respect for the land and enjoy!

I was just there on Wednesday, well at the nearby Tumey Hills to be exact. I stopped by on my way down to LA, since it's a short drive off the I-5, Panoche Road exit. The trail got a little sketchy for my car, but I made it in and out okay.

I drove into the gate, about a quarter mile down a dirt trail until I saw a pile of objects riddle with bullet holes. I placed a few of my own objects on the pile, shot them up with an AK, picked up what trash I could, packed up and continued on down to LA.

Most national forest's are BLM. You can shoot and camp, but you have to get a fire permit first. All gun laws are in effect. You can rapid fire all you want though and also Tannerite!

I know you're north of me (OC/LA), but do you have any info (or sources that I can get info) for camping and shooting locations?...

I spent some time today researching on internet and calling a couple of the BLM field offices - but most of the BLM locations dont seem suitable for camping (with camper, not tent)... I'm not sure vehicle will make it through some of the dirt roads - and I dont think the locations are sufficient camp areas - seem more of a day trip thing).

I shot of Hodge Road (BLM land) a couple of weeks ago and had no problems, so I am going again in a couple of weeks. I do wish people would bring their trash back with them when shooting on BLM land.

A minor nitpick but... BLM land is NOT government land. It is PUBLIC land, owned by the people of the United States, which we currently ALLOW the government to hold in trust and manage for us.

There is a lot of BLM land in lots of places in California. Not all rangers behave the same way. Please don't generalize. Tons of us shoot regularly on BLM land without being harassed by LE.

I enjoy shooting on BLM land, though I don't get to do it as often as I'd like.

No one has ever taken my guns, (wrongfully or otherwise) and never been harassed. The LEO contact I have experienced has been pleasant, I've always kinda' wondered what they're thinking when they roll up on people with a bunch of guns.

This is my favorite way to shoot; set up an EZ-up for some shade, cooler full of cold drinks (non-alcoholic) and some snacks, and get after it!

One of the first things I do after setting up is get a pistol in each hand and empty 'em as fast as I can, just because. Most ranges frown on this type of behavior.

I was hoping to do some BLM shooting this Sunday, but we have to go to a BBQ at a friends house on the boardwalk @ Mission Beach... poor me.

For those of you who are not familiar with Mission Beach in San Diego, let's just say it's a pretty good place for a red-blooded American male to, umm.... "people-watch".

Closest spots to Riverside I know of (I may be mistaken) is up by Lake Matthew, near the Gun Club I think. Then if you travel up the 15 N you'll hit Lytle Creek, which I believe is somewhere in either in Rancho or Ontario.
