Galls Body Armor

Depends on how much hand fitting they do for you. If it is an off the rack vest then you will likely be uncomfortable in it if you wear it day in and out.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Galls. They have a nice store in Kearney Mesa (San Diego area). Always good service and they stand behind their stuff.

Galls has been in business a long time. They're usually reliable and sell high quality products.

What I've seen in the past regarding Galls is a lot of complaints about high markup. My opinion is that their prices are decent for their own branded stuff, the vests no exception.

But I'm not getting any vest unless I can make sure it fits A-OK.

P.S. The one order I had with them, I ordered cuffs, a cuff case, and a glove pouch. They shipped a double mag pouch instead of the cuff case. I had them ship it back and got a partial refund instead of having them get the order right. Ended up getting a good-looking used one off eBay for way cheaper.

Galls sell high quality brands but DO NOT buy Galls brand. I spent like 170 bucks on my duty belt total under GALLS brand, within a month, i have to replace half of the stuffs on my belt. Especially body armor, why do risk your life on it? Get some quality brand. I went to the store in Katella last week and the sign stated "Body armor- if you leave the store, there is no exchange or refund on body armor"

Does body armor have a limited lifetime? I thought I had read before that it had to be replaced after 5 years or something like that. Any truth to it? I wouldn't suspect that a synthetic fiber would break down that quickly....

Yes, it does. It depends on how you store it and a few other things.

There has been (recent) testing on Kevlar vests which were manufactured over 10yrs ago. Having been stored properly, it outperformed newly manufactured vests made from Zylon (go figure ) and some other woven aramids.

Buy Kevlar from a NAME BRAND manufacturer that has been approved by the NIJ and take care of it. Even with day-to-day usage you can expect a long lifespan out of a QUALITY made vest.

US Armor comes to mind and it tends to be a quality choice made by people who spend out of their own pocket for gear they need to depend on. Remember, if you buy a cheap set of body armor odds are you won't get a chance to buy a better vest later.

do not buy a zylon vest, zylon is stronger and lighter than kevlar but once it gets wet, it is as ballistically effective as a sweatshirt for life.

Second Chance doesn't get any more chances. Too many recalls. Read their crap vests could even have lead to the assassination of GW Bush & his family.

If the principle that "bad" public figures in the U.S. never get assassinated didn't exist, of course.

Galls is good about 20 of the guys I work with use Galls, the rest like myself use American or other random brands. Whatever you get though get a good plate, with a soft cover for it and keep the soft side toward the enemy.

Point Blank is another good brand, so is Safariland. If I get another concealed vest it wil be Point Blank, Safari or American, just because those are brands I've already used and liked.
