    Are they REALLY for sale??

Has anyone else gotten the feeling that some people place their guns in the Private Firearms Sales ("WTS") section just to show off their collection?

They write lengthy descriptions of the guns (including all the prices they paid for extras); take publication-quality photographs; and then list asking prices that clearly demonstrate they have no intention of actually attracting a buyer.

    Is it just me? Hmmm...

Or they put such crazy demands and/or stipulations on a deal that it is completely unattractive to a buyer.

It's also amazing to see how many guns out there have had ZERO FTF's, FTE's, Light strikes, Squibs, etc, etc, etc.

Bunch of dumb @$$e$ They are more than a few "show of your firearm threads" too And their rifles aren't even worth what the asking price is.

Interesting. I was reading up on older controversial threads where members were arguing over intervening in "gougers" threads versus walking away. I did see someone mention though that some sellers appear to be factoring in the expenses they incur through DROS, FFL fees/tax and all that in an attempt to recoup those expenses. To me, those expenses don't add any actual value to the firearm, so I question that practice.

I think we all know someone like this don't we? Everything they buy they think is fantastic, even if its a turd, and everything they sell they want top dollar for. They usually ask for more than retail price for a used gun because they think their accessories are worth tons of cash. You add it up and ask them why you should buy their junk when you could get a brand new one for darn near the same price.
Its a personality type. just walk away.

Not just the guns for sale but also in the ammo/reloading/parts sections. I can buy mail order(with shipping) or local store for less than many ask for their stuff. Just because you paid X dollars for it ,even if not used, it is no longer worth that. Especially when you overpaid for it to start with. Knocking off $100 on something you say(and did) you paid $2000 for is not any deal that will get many buyers. Especially if used even alittle.

I do not complain or point it out to them. I just move along. It is too bad that after bumping an item 2 times that it is automaticly dropped from the section.

                To each his own.

What about the people who post "how much is my gun worth" in normal subforums, and basically write a huge ad and bunch of pics. I always get the feeling they are trying to get extra exposure and aren't really posting it to ask a price, more like getting more people to see it and sell easier since they claim to have a price in mind, but are just double checking lol

I just came across a pistol that im interested in buying in the WTS section and the guy listed that 50 rounds were down the pipe and he was asking $40 more than a brand new one that my local dealer has plenty of in stock. I asked for clarification and he said he is offering it for a PPT so that you can still purchase another handgun within 30 days so it has a premium on it. Doh!!! I dont get some people

I honestly don't get why people spend time pissing and moaning over stuff on the sales forum. I run into things that irritate me there all the time, just like I do when I go to a gun store, or order off the internet. Each have their own peculiar annoyances.

The answer is always to just ignore it and find someone selling for a reasonable price, rather than wasting time and energy thinking about it. Someone lowballs you, ignore them, wait for a real buyer. Someone overcharges, or has unrealistic expectations? Well, they just won't sell their gun. It's all the free market.

While I am a cheap SOB and will only offer as much as something is worth TO ME, I have paid someone his asking price for a rifle which included evey penny he had invested into it including tax, shipping, DROS and even aftermarket parts. He is an upstanding member here who I felt I could help out and still be slightly ahead of the game since, he had jumped on a group buy that I had passed on. Then, when he listed his rifle, I had the funds but could not find one any cheaper. So, it can happen and be beneficial for both parties.
