I quit arguing with the FFL's about this issue along time ago. It's like spitting in the wind. If convenient, just return the lock. Good Luck.

The seller can also write up a short receipt ( handwritten), and that will qualify if it is dated. That way, you don't even have to worry about the hassle of returning it.

Only that returning something at Walmart is a huge pain, since the customer service return line is always long there at every hour during the day (and I don't know how, but a lot of times it takes forever for 1 person to get a refund back, as if they like to argue with the CS rep doing the return for them). After spending $5 on a lock there, you'll just want to eat up the $5 rather than waste your time in line waiting for a refund.

Go to Big 5 or any other sporting goods retailer that you know won't be as busy when you need to return a cable lock.

Ask the dealer is the new guns they sell come with a receipt showing the lock was purchased within the last 30 days. If not, then ask why this firearm supplied with a factory lock is any different?

Odds are none of your logical comments will work and you should just return the lock a few days later, unless they are smart enough to say "No refunds or returns on CA approved FSDs."
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

You're right, Big 5 isnt' as busy as WM but it's also not open nearly as early.
It's been my experience that Walmart is open early in the morning and I haven't had to wait in a line for CSR (at least at the Mtn View one) on a weekday morning between 8-8.30AM.

IMO, before work is the most pleasant time of day to go shopping.
