I was there a few minutes after it happened. The cops started getting there right after I pulled up. The guy made it about 2 doors up the street headed north on El Camino and was lying face down on the sidewalk with a Stainless revolver off to his left. I should also mention that his pants were down exposing his butt to the world. I am thinking maybe he was running when he pulled the trigger and then his pants/sweats got got on the concrete as he came to a rest, maybe.

Everyone was kind of standing around with pail faces and just looking kind of stunned. There was no visible blood so I am thinking he shot himself in the heart or maybe put the gun in his mouth and had the bullet come out the back of his head. Maybe we will learn more on the news.

The man commit a felony before he commited suicide. I think that will have some significance if it ever makes it to court.

I recently added a maglock to my innner security door and use it to controle access all day long. No going in or out without my knowing and letting you.

I did it after Ron was killed around the corner. This is just another good reason for it. You cant run out with one in my store.

I REALLY hope this works out OK for Imbert and Smithers, kid all you want about their prices. It was a mom and pop shop and he is a dang fine gunsmith. Id hate to see it go away because some guy couldnt get over the fence on the Golden Gate Bridge.

I think Imbert and Smithers has a good case against SF. After all it is your right to die isn't it? They close off the GG bridge to jumpers by putting up a big old fence. Dangit now, see what he had to do instead!

                      ...
Even if any new restrictions were added to storage requirements; when a customer wants to see a gun, it would come out of storage and be unlocked - doing nothing to stop the suicidal.

                      BigMac,
Your lock is wise from a business and initial safety standpoint, but still a committed suicide might still kill himself in your store.

I think if someone tried to load a round in a gun inside Mac's store,
they would be more likely to get shot than have the time to shoot themselve's.
I've known daredevils and I ain't got nothing against them.....its just they're all dead.

This was in San Carlos, about 20 miles south of SF.

[QUOTE=Technical Ted]That was my point. How many of us want to try the trigger of a handgun before purchase?
I still find it somewhat annoying when a shop won't allow a single dry fire to get a feel for a trigger.[QUOTE]

After firing friends guns and dry firing a few in gun shops and feeling the differences in trigger pull, i can't imagine not dry firing a gun before a purchase. Didn't know that there were shops that didn't let you dry fire.

All you need is a simple locking device, consisting of a long rod, with a widening end, which can be locked into the barrel of a gun (caliber-specific). The device would allow the gun to fully function, but will not allow it to chamber a round. I could have sworn someone already made a lock like this, but I'd change it so all the controls and trigger still work- heck, integrate in a snap cap if you like.

A suicidal guy could only beat himself to death with it
