A man accidently fired his rifle early Monday while trying to clean the gun, sending a bullet through the window of his mobile home and into the forehead of a passing motorist, killing him.

The accident happened near 29th Drive and Deer Valley, according to Phoenix Fire officials.

The victim is described as a man in his 60s. He was apparently driving a tow truck when the bullet hit him.

Police say the truck continued down the road after the driver had been hit.

The suspected shooter ran out and stopped the truck, but the driver was already dead.

It's unclear what charges the suspect could face.

Morons like this make it harder to be a gun owner.

Whew! Found the story! Obviously he was A LOT more negligent

A 14-year-old Orangevale boy has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a passing motorist last September, says the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.

The charge also includes an enhancement of personal use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The teenager is charged with shooting 69-year-old Gary Marcy on September 27. Marcy and his wife were driving down Lake Natoma Drive in Orangevale when he was struck and killed by a bullet an investigation determined was fired by the teenager.

Last week the district attorney's office announced it had determined during its investigation that the 14-year-old's carelessness played an integral role. The teenager, who is not being identified because of his status as a minor, told Sacramento County sheriff's detectives he was showing his brother's new hunting rifle to a friend and didn't know the gun was loaded when he pointed the weapon out his bedroom window and fired the fatal shot.

Investigators determined the boy picked up the gun without checking to see if it was loaded, racked the bolt without checking it, pointed the gun and used it to track a passing car and then pulled the trigger, Lana Wayant of the District Attorney's Office said.

"We learned that the 14-year-old had been hunting with his natural father and brother numerous times and that he in fact had taken and completed gun safety courses," Wayant said.

The teen's arraignment is scheduled for November 27 in Sacramento Juvenile Court.
