Hmmm... Well, anybody in that situation should inquire about getting additional training in the civilian circles - someone I know took the Marine out and that helped him a lot to overcome some of the inherit mistakes that slipped on through his training.

It's also a Civil Duty to be proficient with the firearm and to spread that knowledge around - I'm sure given time and place, guns and ammo can be provided...

All right guys, I think I can get to the bottom of this come Monday the 24th(I just read this Friday night).

I am in A Troop, 1/18th Cavalry as a Platoon Sergeant. I haven't been around for awhile because I am currently deployed with the Southwest Border Mission, so I don't personally know this Private.

I will call my full-timer on Monday and get the young trooper's phone # and talk to him personally. And as far as I know, there are no current plans to deploy the 18th Cav. in the next 6-12 months. Although it is possible that he is getting picked as a filler for another unit. That happened to me and I did 18 months on active duty, 12 of it in Iraq.

I will update this as I get new info.

And in all fairness, just because JMB did it doesn't mean anything. He'd have won WWII with a soup can, a fork, and a couple rocks. Seriously, even McGuyver and Steven Hawking get together every now and then and are like "How the **** did he do that?..."

Hooah, roger that Sergeant. I hope that Private gets squared away.

He never did respond to my e-mail on AKO.
