Well its true, and I did, I applied in Onondaga County, the pistol permit dept. employees waived the application and fingerprinting fees, just had to pay for the FBI background check. I got a letter from my chain of command stating I had training on handgun safety and thus they waived the handgun safety course requirement.
The only problem I ran into was two of my references flaked on filling out their paperwork, the permit dept. called me after a few weeks and asked about them, saying they hadn't heard from the references so I asked if I could just submit new ones and they said yes. From then it was smooth sailing.
the day my permit was available, I picked it up, drove over to the gun store, purchased my pistol, drove back to the permit office to have the pistol added to the permit and then drove back to the store to pick up the pistol. Yes its alot of driving and it was a bit of a pain in the butt but not the end of the world like some people make it out to be.
I also later transferred the permit to Chautauqua County and then to Erie County all without any issues, and my permit remained a Concealed Carry with no restrictions. granted getting my non-resident PA permit was a lot easier but it still wasn't all that bad.
Trust me, a good number of Calgunners have seen the permit, in fact Gene Hoffman was envious as its one that he doesn't have himself
