Legality Question on my "self Loading" rifle.

Hi Everyone, Was told a mix bag of sorts on the legality of my rifle and I was hoping to get some clarification here:

I was told by my local shop that if it has a "fixed" mag or bullet button, I can throw as many mods on as I want, without F/A of course. But looking at the calguns handout I might be on the illegal side. Please Help!!

Here's my "proposed" set-up, if you can PM or comment that would be great:
    Stag 5.56 lower
    RRA LPK
    MIAD grip
    magpul enhanced trigger guard
generic 6 position milspec buffer kit
    CTR stock
    Standard Bullet-button kit
2-20 rnd. PMAGS modified with magblocks to 10 rnd.(should I pin them? glue them?)

    JDM "M4" upper
    5.56 16" chrome-lined barrel
    YHM black gas tube
    Generic LoPro gas block
YHM diamond spectre FF with end cap
    YHM phantom comp/brake compensator
    BCM mod 4 CH
    BCM BCG
As of now no optics but a pair of MBUS's and a bunch of XTM's in all colors

I can add a picture if so desired but I'd just like to get some info and verify. So far this is all I got and any help would be great.

looks g2g. your main concern is keeping the rifle the correct OAL, 30" or 26"? can never remember. and your using magazines blocked to only hold 10rds. and a bullet button.

With that configuration, you should have no problem achieving the 30" overall length required by Cali law with the stock in the shortest configuration. Your 10/20 mags should be permanently modified to hold 10 rounds or less. Otherwise, congrats on a great build.

I have basically the exact same setup. You should be GTG. Mine is IIRC 32" with the stock in the fully collapsed position. I was relieved it wasn't anywhere even close to being able to be an issue. I'd pin the mags.

Thanks a lot! So as long as I'm over 30" I'll be GTG. That's awesome news. I may be pushing it, but anyone got some good advice on an optic for under $200? I'm going to the code of the west in vallejo this weekend with a wad and maybe someone might know the right booth to visit. Thanks again, I really appreciate the responses!

You did not state whether you were looking for a magnified optic or red dot. Try these. They are consistently well reviewed:

I didn't and I apologize. But you guys were right on the money and I was looking for a red dot. I'll pick one up, they look like solid choices and if their as revered as you say, I bet I'll be happy with it too.

There needs to be a 90 day review period of new members - you don't bother to read a very well detailed black gun faq right on the CG homepage, you don't bother to even try to use the search feature let alone google it. Instead you start out your time here by asking people if they think some future purchase is cool enough.

Since it doesnt seem you have any clue what your doing your first step is to visit a firearms retailer buy the cheapest newb set up you can find and start modifying what makes sense after you know what it is that you feel is wrong for you like everyone else.

Why the flame? The guy is new and asked for help. No other Cal-guns member seemed to have a problem answering his question. Just saying, cut the new guy some slack and welcome him to the forum. You were never new?

Not an expert but I believe 26" on shotguns and 30" on rifles.

Actually, centerfire rifles must be 30" in their shortest configuration for California. Rimfire rifles must be 26", which is the Federal requirement that California follows.
