Border Patrol Uses 9mm AR-15s?

So I'm watching "Gangland" on Spike TV and they're talking about Los Zetas (Mexican drug cartel) and they were interviewing a Border Patrol agent who was carrying an AR. I didn't think much until I saw the stick mag so I'm assuming it's a 9mm. I think that this agent was in Loredo, TX.

Do they actually use 9mm ARs or did I see that wrong? Why would they use a 9mm over a 5.556/.223?

Just thought it was kind of weird.

I'm pretty sure the BP does not carry 9mm ARs. The do carry UMP 40s, and M4s, maybe the Agent screwed up and used the wrong mag

Makes no sense for the border patrol...

I work near a Federal Reserve building. Years ago I saw their security carrying a AR M4 with a stick mag (likely 9mm). I figure it was to minimize over-penetration in a highly crowded urban environment.

Certain Federal agencies use .40S&W M4's. My buddy's brother was in the FBI and he qualified with a .40cal M4.

In doors at facilities and customs in doors at various facilities I could certainly see them carrying 9mm versions. Our "view" of the boarder patrol out in the desert between Mexico and the US - I can't imagine those guys carrying anything with that limited of a range.

I thought I heard someplace they carried H&K full auto in .556.

El Cajon PD SWAT uses 9mm AR's.

Cheaper to train with.

Im in the application process for it, so my knowledge just comes from what I have heard and read. They generally carry .40 H&K P2000s, .40 UMPs, .556 M4s, and 870s.

Their website doesn't provide calibers but I have absolutely seen them with what looked like .556 AR 30 rounders sticking out of their m4s before.
