LEO patroling "the range", seems odd to me. Is this public or private property? Is your "range" on BLM land or what?

I have never had LEO on the range I use....at least not searching(I know for a fact that LEOs are members), though it is a private range used for members...but non members are allowed to shoot, with the right fees.
I guess what I am really saying is that if it is private property. How is it possible that an LEO can come out onto private property and regulate firearms that are legal?

I was out at a local range today and the sheriff came out like every weekend to check firearms for compliance and generally harass lawful gun owners on the firing line, shutting down shooting for abou

The range is public land that is leased to the range operators.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I used to rent apartments and houses while I was in college. Never once did I have LEO or anyone else for that matter some in and check to make sure I wasn't doing anything illegal.

apples and oranges. I would imagine that leases for private housing are often differerent than those for public ranges (expecially when you are leasing the land from BLM).

Funny you say that, the club I am a member of has a lease from the BLM, we built several ranges for different type shooting, from 25 years to 600 yards. The BLM (and local LEAs, Sherrif, Border Patrol, etc.) like our range so much that they now have a contract with us to use the range and follow our rules. I would like to thank .gov for helping pay to maintain our range and keep the dues at 50 bucks a year.

My previous landlords came by to inspect their property numerous times while I inhabited them. Luckily there are very specific laws surrounding this, but that didn't stop them from driving by, or knocking unannounced, "just to say hi."

yup, if you went downrange to set up targets, you left at least one guy on the line with a loaded firearm, for protection.

Ouch, well thanks, that answers my question!

Is this mostly a S. Cal. thing? I do not know of any BLM/Ranges up here in N. Cal., they all seem to be private ranges or BLM/Forestry land.
