    My budget arsenal, what next!

I started with thoughts about home defense and then it morphed into a prepper'esque survival list. So here is what I have so far, what I paid for every thing and why I have it.

    1. Mossberg 500 12ga. Two barrel, security/field combo - $250 - HD and duck hunting

    2. Mosin Nagant 91/30 - $120 - deer/pig hunting, zombie defense and long range "sniper". I plan to do a scout conversion on this.

    3. Legion Saiga 223 - $400 - general hunting and shtf rifle.

    4. Marlin 989 m2 22lr (100 anniversary edition) - $100 - small game, training rifle, future gift for son

    5. RIA 1911 .45 - $400 - HD, shtf sidearm

    6. Bersa Thunder 380 - $300 - Wife's HD gun, future ccw?

So that is my "mini arsenal 4 less then the price of one premium gun"

I realize I have a gaping hole in the 9mm slot. I'm still trying to find the right role for it.

So with my penchant for frugality in mind, any suggestions on guns/roles that I have left open?

Bonus points for c&r options! I've filled for my 03, who knows when I'll actually get it.

A revolver or two, and why worry about .9's if you have .45's? My thinking is to keep it simple re: ammo - find the 2/3/4 calibers you like best, and fill your safe accordingly.

    You'll get many opinions; there's mine . . .

i'd consider a 9mm over the .380 for HD and future concealed carry; regarding your concern over the "gaping hole" in the 9mm slot.

regardless of frugality... i'd look at the G26 for future concealed carry; a great subcompact 9mm.

9mm is cheaper, .45 is more man stopper/bigger game hunter (desperate?)

Anyways, I'd say if were in a SHTF scenario I'd rather have 9mm. You can pack more of that in the same space as the .45, it's more 'abundant' than the .45 in the world. Depending on what 9mm you get (go for a Glock ) You can pack 17 in a 'regular' mag and 33 in an extended...just sayin'. That's a lot more rounds than the 13/25 you'd get in a .45 glock.

If you were creating an arsenal, I'd look into a rifle that shoots either 9/45 also.
Marlin camp 9/45 would fit the bill. Consolidating ammo is a big priority too.

Get a larger caliber semi-auto, something in .308. If you like Saigas, they make a .308. Or you can go an FAL, there are good deals to be had.

Makarov it's 9mm makarov! It's there in the name! Either a CZ 82 or a bulgy mak will run you about 200 dollars and it's about that much for 1k of ammo so there.

Buy what strikes your fancy. If I were to plan on hunting I would get a 308 in a scoped rifle. The style of action is up to you. IF a bolt rifle I would get a Tikka/Vanguard/Savage myself.

The reason I like 9mm is the price. Next to 22lr it's pretty much the cheapest to shoot.

And I like 308 as well. But is there a steal out there for a 308. Like the mosin nagant for $100?

Also someone mentioned a camp carbine. I like that idea as well. The marlin seems a bit hard to find and the price is a bit high. But Hi Point makes some as well. They are ugly as sin but seem to get some good marks from people who have actually shot them.

For 9mm, checkout a Ruger P-series pistol (P89 is my choice) and see if you like them. Can hardly find a better bang for your buck.

9mm ammo will likely be more available and will have more choices to pick from. It (9mm) will probably be less expensive ccompared to 380acp.

                      I'd look at a G17 for a full size 9mm pistol.

See, this way, you also fulfill your gaping sword hole, too.

                          Wait, that sounded kinda wrong...

Ok, I have to ask, what is it about the sks that people love so much? I'm not trying to be a hater, I'm trying to understand.

I remember that the first time I saw one I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It was at a gun show and I was 18. This was over 20 some years ago of course.

Now I have a mosin and it's good for distance. And I have my AK'ish Saiga. So what role does the sks fill?

And to all you Glock lovers. You are not getting the vibe of my collection. These are all guns that perform as well as guns that cost much more while saving me loads of cash. Saiga vs AR, RIA 1911 vs Colt, Mosin vs 308, marlin vs 10/22.

No Glocks, to expensive. Rugers are closer but you are only really saving $100. I'm looking for that Dare-to-be-Frugal experience!
