    Ammo Storage?

How do you all store your ammo?

I am not talking about a few boxes of 20-50-100 rounds, but when it gets up into the thousands of rounds of various calibers, where do you keep it?

I have a small gun cabinet in a closet with very little room for ammo storage, but I have more ammo than will fit in it and would like to keep it reasonably secure (teenagers). Stacking it in ammo cans doesn't seem like the best idea, unless they were somehow secured as well.

What do you do? Locking cabinet? A safe? Bury it?

Home Depot sells rigid tool boxes that come in handy for ammo storage. They have one thats 19''x32''x13'' that are around 200$ There made pretty well and there a copy of a knaack box. They hold about five cubic feet. http://www.knaack.com/jobsite_storag...cts.php?p_id=2

7.62 and 50 cal ammo boxes on the closet floor.
Boxes are marked with their caliber in yellow paint-pen.

      A 50 cal box will hold 1200 rounds of 9mm WWB, 800 or 900 rounds of .45 in 50rd boxes. A 7.62 box will hold over 500rds of 5.56.

Makes it easy to grab ammo when I go to the range... day-trip to the dez or an outdoor range, I'll take it all. Trip to the indoor, I'll decide what guns I'm taking, pop a box open, throw a couple hundred rounds per gun in the range bag, and head out.

The ammo boxes would be convenient, but someone could walk away with them pretty easily. Putting them inside a Ridgid or Knaack box sounds like a good idea, especially if the box is bolted down.

I have an aluminum truck cross box I was considering using to store ammo, but it is too long to fit where it needs to go.

Get a cheap Stack-On locking cabinet from Walmart. I think they have some that are sub $100. Most of them online are free or cheap shipping too.

full 50 cal ammo cans are heavy.

And besides... they have to get through this first....

I picked up some 40mm ammo cans at a gunshow a while back. They work fantastic and you can lock them if you want too with a trigger lock. .50 cans work well too. and are airtight

Ammo cans and the original boxes that came with them. To secure them when the need occurs I'll just keep the ammo cans in a gorilla case or something I could put a pad lock on.

I found one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Jobox-1-654990...d_sbs_indust_1 exactly this size for $200 bucks off Craigslist.

I out grew it, and with concerns of if I ever had a fire, I decided to get the biggest safe I could afford. When you consider the amount of money ammo costs...why take the risk.

In 50 cal cans, also on the shelf of my closet of the ammo I shoot weekly. Yes the ammo boxes are full to the top. I am the least bit worried about someone stealing them.
