San Ramon Officer Arrest - Illegal AW

A search on the forum didn't produce any hits, so I figured i'll post this up. The AW charge wasn't the lead item, but added after a warrant based search of his home:

Rats. I saw the arrest connected to CNET before. Kind of a toss-up whether the rifle really is illegal - some LEO just don't seem to care, so could be illegal, but identification, as we know, can be tricky, so might not be illegal.

I'm sure this is amateur hour compared to the SOP that occurs in other agencies; former command staff of SFPD comes to mind. I'd even argue politicians and corporate executives have committed worse crimes and have never been close to being arrested. But that's for a different thread. In any case, punishment here is deserved.

Many agencies relaxed the hiring standards in recent years due to lack of qualified applicants. Some agencies experienced incidents like this occasionally. This may not be the last one.

When I applied, an applicant who smoked one pot in high school was disqualified from an agency. Now, anything less than a felony conviction is okay, I was told.

I know this guy, and when the CNET story broke I said that there would be more crooked cops. This is the guy I was thinking of specifically. He's a total piece of ****, and it comes as no surprise that he's basically a mid-level drug lord.

The assault weapon is probably a RRA Entry Tactical, if anyone cares. I was at a dinner party where he was in attendance a few years ago where he was telling everyone about it. This team has also been involved in several fatal shootings, and I'm hoping the DA is looking into that. I wouldn't be surprised if they were a little more business related than not.

The newspaper said it was possession of "assault and SKS rifles" () that he got busted for, among other things.
