IMO the dialogue in the the movie was B-, i.e. B movies are better than it was. The gun handling was "Hollywoodized", he would have never made it into the compound and through the three vs. one sniper scenario. I have to admit the do-it-yourself IV and whip cream Nox surgery scenes were pretty neat, but ? on reality.

The movie is what it was: entertaining. Except the end. The ending was 'meh'.

So did the end of the book end like the movie? With some weird *** firing pin technicallity?
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Yes, it did actually. But then in progressed into an action-retribution sequence.

Saw the movie, however, the book is WAY better. In Fact, all three books in the series are good.

C'mon it's a modern Hollywood movie. They had to leave a hole open for:

                Shooter 2: The Retribution

Starring Giovanni Ribisi as Bob Lee Swagger.

Coming soon to a theater near you

                Now available on DVD

On Sale for $4.99 each or 3 for $10.

                  Close. But...

It will more likely be... Giovanni Ribisi as Jimmie JoeJimmie Joe Swagger uses a compound bow instead of a rifle. It will be called "Arrow Shooter" or "Broadhead" or "Killer Cupid" . It will be directed by Richard Donner who will work in some type of "guns are evil/stop the NRA" underlying message, the reason the lead will be using a bow and arrow, throwing darts, and a javelin at some point.

It was an okay movie, but nothing special. Killing his dog, though, that was just wrong.

Doesn't necessarily mean he received live fire training.

Like Pthfinder said: It's a movie.

The entertainment movie industry is based on fantasy and illusion. Wahlberg didn't need to be a marksman, nor does he have to have confirmed kills, to play his role in Shooter. Handling can easily be taught with a prop gun. As long as he appeared to handle the firearm in an "authentic" manner, adequate editing would foster the illusion that his character was "real".

Aside from that, studios have batteries of attorneys that could easily convince authorities to grant him an exemption to handle firearms for entertainment purposes.

BTW: A common phrase heard in editing suites is:"Most people won't notice that."

Actually he did. I rented the DVD, and in the "extras" they have a seperate piece on him, the training he got, and the former mil sniper/current instructor at Front Sight that trained him. There was ample footage of him shooting steel from close range out to, IIRC, 700 yards.

I thought he rang steel at 900 or so in the special features. Just once, took him a couple of shots, but...
