are you opposed to used guns?
I would also look into the used market as it would give you more options

Somewhere I'm sure you could find a K98 Mauser.

The only reason I am opposed to used guns, is because it needs to be a gun that I can physically inspect, or rather, does not require shipping. The only places nearby I can think of that have consignment-type guns are GFOS and River-City Gun Exchange, and I dunno what all they actually have. I do not want to pay for/deal with shipping etc.

Fingers still crossed for a minty autoloading 12ga, but I know that ain't happenin' haha.

Maverick 88 (essentially a less expensive version of Mossberg 500.)

The exact reason I purchased my 795, actually!

But, I was never able to shoot Appleseed with it, and recently shot a CMP Hipower match with...an SKS.

It was challenging, but I did better than I thought I would, and so now I want to see how well I can end up doing with an SKS, just to show all those AR peeps who is boss

I will have to look at the Maverick, perhaps. Is 18 too short to shoot clays with? I mean, i know it'd be very difficult; I am used to a 28" Nova I borrow.
But, is clays with an 18", impossible? Or can it be done?

Most ranges wont let you bust clays with that short of a barrel. First gun I ever bought was a mossberg 500 with a 28inch barrel for $200 at a gun show. Last time I was out busting clays I got 24/25 twice just couldnt seem to catch that last one.

This^^^ But the extra 20 would go towards cleaning supply's and some beer.

4th for Mosin Nagant + Ammo. You can inspect at Big 5 if you want, go through wtb / wts boards, or just have one shipped to your door if you have a C&R license.

Last time I was in River City they had some sweet 870 police trade ins in that range. The pawn shop near by (buy sell trade?) had some Winchester 1300 shotguns for $199 last time I window shopped. You should go browse both stores and see what is available right now. For $250 your best bang for the buck will be used.
