If you could buy a gun...

...for $250, what would you purchase?

There is no real limitation here. Just the following guidelines:

    $250 or less
Must not need to be shipped into CA
Must be a long-arm, no pistols or lowers or anything. Does not matter if a shotgun or rifle.
    Must be new, essentially.

So, if you had $250, what would you get?
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

You can build a swell LTR for $250.

Out of all my rifles, that's the one that gets shot the most, teaches me the most, gets loaned out the most. And it's my least expensive.

          AMMO! DUH.
          sorry could not resist.

Given your restrictions, a .22 is the only option in a long gun at that price range that I can think of for a new firearm. Other than a Mosin Nagant(not new) but new to you!

Mosin Nagant arsenal refinished to like new condition for like $130. A tin of 440rds for about $100. Still have $20 to put toward another gun.

Sorry. I did not read the part where you mentioned no handguns.
So, i'd recommend the almighty Mosin Nagant, any model!

i'd become very tenacious to find an old pristine condition Remington 870 Wingmaster.

If you wanted a new centerfire rifle
the cheapest out there would be the following
Im pretty sure none of them would meet the $250 budget but wouldnt be too far off

                      Stevens 200

Haha ahh, yes, i'd forgotten; the Mosin is the exception to the "no used" rule.

I already have an SKS, and a Marlin 795, so neither of those.

I was considering either a Mosin, or a .22 (perhaps a Savage bolt-action?), I doubt there are any nice quality shotguns in that range...i'll look at those centerfires people listed too
