    Front Sight tips?

Mrs. Pelicandriver and I are going to Front Sight for a two-day handgun course. Does anybody who's been there have any tips besides what on their website? We're definitely taking plenty of sunscreen and water!

I was there April 4&5 and it was warm when you are standing in the sun. Take some chap-stick and good sun screen, my lips dried out with the slight breeze we had. I took an ice chest with 16oz. bottles of water that I added the packets of Crystal-Lite to make a flavored drink. They no longer have Gatorade for the classes. But plenty of water is provided. Next time I am wearing one of those hats that cover the back of ones neck and a loose long sleeve white t- shirt. In addition we ordered lunch form Beach Cafe's menu. Cost was $28.00 cash for two, and the were very good. They deliver to Front Sight if called in before 9am the same day. 702-898-5200. Have fun.

Was at Front Sight 04.15-18.2011 for the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Course.

Make sure your fingernails are cut short.
Tape and band aids for the malfunction drills.
        Drink plenty of water.
Get in the center of the range, you'll hear the range commands better.
Buy the handgun practice manual from the Pro-Shop.
        Relax and have fun.

As said before... HAVE FUN!! I was there for the 4/4-4/7 handgun class with a friend and the instruction was great and they treat you very well. As for suggestions:
              1. If u want something other than plain water bring a water bottle and some powdered Gatorade. Just use their water
              2. Bring your own high quality knuckle and finger bandaids cause theirs aren so hot. Also buy a roll of athletic tape ( basically any drug store) cause you'll probably have some raw fingers after a couple days of drills. Use the tape to protect yourself from blisters and such. I put it around my fingers where they got raw but my friend had great luck putting a strip over the offending grip area.
              3. Bring extra magazines as the class can move fast and it's easier if you have extra loaded mags handy. Trying to do tactical reloads with only 2 mags to work with gets annoying. I ran a 1911 and had 4 mags on the belt and another 4 in my pocket loaded to rotate in as needed. It made for much less leaving the line to get more ammo and reload.
              4. The only other item that isn't mentioned is to make sure u bring a gun you can manipulate. There were some folks who had real issues racking and manipulating their firearms simply because the gun was too big or they did not have the strength in their arms or hands to do the drills over and over again. You will enjoy the class more and get more out of it if you can already manipulate your gun comfortably.
              5. Oh and did I mention HAVE FUN!!

Enjoy your class and hope some of this info from my experience is helpful. Everyone was extremely friendly and professional and very safety conscious. You'll have a great time!

Drink your water even if you aren't thirsty. The arid climate will dehydrate you and you won't know it.

Take a backup gun for each of you, unless you don't mind having to rent one of theres if yours breaks.

The more mags the better, it will cut down on reloading times.

Do not take a SERPA style holster, they've recently banned them from lack of training.

Electronic ear muffs. They will be talking a lot and giving corrections, so this is important.

Outside of that, make sure you have fun. Front Sight does an excellent job at getting people safe training. However, don't stop here. Make sure you keep expanding your knowledge and exploring different styles until you fall into your own.

Get a Upula (universal pistol loader), it saved my thumbs.

Got the electronic muffs and the upula. I hadn't thought about the tape and bandaids. Real good tip. I'll definitely add the long sleeves and hats. Thanks for the tips.

Does anybody know about using the private ranges? We'll be there a few days early and might want to do a little .22 plinking.

Lunches from Beach Cafe (delivered to FS and waiting for you come lunchtime) are great boxed lunches.

I prefer to take comfortable folding chairs (with armrests and drinkholder). Much more comfortable than the range chairs.
