I hope they won't try to prosecute the guy for something, such as being a good citizen. After all, this is Detroit.

Hopefully there's no retribution that follows, given that the good Samaritan's name was all over the news.

Sounds like the bank robber didn't have a gun, just a note.

Rant: There is NO WAY I would have put my 2 kids in harms way in this situation by engaging someone fleeing with cash from a bank robbery. The bank is insured and so is the people's money. What if the robber had returned fire and killed one of his boys? What if the bank robber had a backup man who was following a bit afterwards and engaged the CCWer while his attention was on bad guy #1.

I'm sorry, engaging as a non-LEO is risky. It's insane to do it with your kids standing next to you in the crosshairs.

I agree! He did a great thing - but it was only money. At the time of the incident the bank robber was not threatening anyone's life. Needless risk of his sons lives imo.

He did a great thing and I'm glad the LEO praised him instead of shooting the good guy or tasered and beaten or arrested unlike other cities or counties

Even off duty LEO's are told to not get involved but to observe & report. A CCW is for ones personal protection, it isn't a license to fight crime.

I really misread the thread title. I thought this idiot stopped a bank robbery:

Bold added by me for emphasis.

                        Exactly!!!!!

IMO, the only time you should be considering drawing a CCW if you are faced with the choice of:
                        Do I want to:
                        1) lose my life, or
                        2) ruin it forever due to possible jailtime/court battle?

If you want to chase bad guys go to the academy. If you just want to live your life without hassle but have the ability to protect yourself, get the CCW. Pretty simple concepts.
