That is obviously what happened or the cops wouldn't have been called.
I didn't say that it would be legal... but the manager (or maid) absolutely would have opened the door, and given the attitude of the younger cops, it would not have ended well.- Rich

If you call, the police answer even if there is no violation of the law. AT least half the calls generated are for civil matters or where no law is broken yet the police still respond. Do you have any idea on the number of calls I have gone to which were generated because a merchant wouldn't return an item. People call the police for all kinds of BS.
Just because the police responded doesn't mean the staff made something up. Also what the maid would need to say would have to create an exigent circumstance.Last edited by tyrist; 04-17-2011, 2:52 PM.Comment

Funny read but this:
Gives the story a 'long ago and far away' feel -- I'm pretty sure today's version would end much differently.I was attending a weekend shooting match once.People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

From her reaction, I think that is a safe assumption.
He was cleaning his rifle. The maid didn't know it was broken down for cleaning... all she saw was "a guy waving a gun around"
And again, look at the attitude apparently displayed by the cops.
Are you saying that these cops would NOT have entered the room if the manager had keyed the door open after the occupant refused to open the door?
They thought the guy was a part of an illegal militia!
Overall, the guy's actions are a perfect example of how being polite and more forthcoming to cops CAN work out for the best. He didn't try to hide anything because he had nothing to hide, he didn't refuse to talk to the cops, and he didn't say anything incriminating because there was nothing incriminating going on.
Had it not been for the Sgt showing up, the situation may have gone on for another hour or so as the younger guys tried to find something to arrest him for, and in the end, they would have still walked out without an arrest.
Had it happened in LA and the guy clammed up, he would have been taken in under 148PC.- Rich
