Mandatory Gun Lock for PPT?

Most of the OEM locks I've seen say right on the instructions:

dudes, it's not that tough to just remember to bring one with you whenever you go to the shop to buy. And if you're going to an FFL who insists you buy one and it's more than 99-cents, GET A NEW FFL.

Gottcha. I was wrong about having to list a lock on the receipt. However, I was not wrong about a OEM suppied lock having to be "California approved". AFAIK, Ca, has not approved any manufacturer supplied locks. Yea, even though they are the exact same as locks which have been approved, they have different names on them. Can anyone explain why these do or do not meet Califoria's requirements. I know they satisfy Federal ones.

This is not true, the locks that I have gotten with my Glocks (made by Regal) are all on the list, as well as the Springfield XD locks I have received with the XD's that I have owned.

I want to say the idea is that is the gun comes with one, you don't have to worry, because in theory you would already have one on every single firearm you own, but if there is no lock that comes with it, you need to prove that you actually purchased it recently and did not take it off of one of your other firearms.

Its a complete joke, but its part of life in CA.

If I had a really shi*ty FFL who made me buy a new lock, I would buy one from Walmart or somewhere else that sold them, with a generous return policy, and return the lock on my way home.

Or, buy a receipt book and buy a lock off a friend for a beer, and let him buy it back if he needs a new one.

I am going to write a letter to the DOJ and ask if I can get something in writing indicating that as long as a handgun "includes or is accompanied by a firearms safety device that is listed on the Department of Justice's roster of approved firearms safety devices and that is identified as appropriate for that firearm by reference to either the manufacturer and model of the firearm, or to the physical characteristics of the firearm that match those listed on the roster for use with the device," that no new lock need be purchased or one with a receipt be shown.

I don't understand why people ***** and complain about so much that is done to inconvenience us in regards to our gun rights, but for some reason this isn't worth arguing about.

Did a PPT at TDS a couple of months ago, they took the safe affidavit.
Picked up a 10/22 at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and it came with a lock. But it wouldn't fit with the scope on it so I left it off.

For a long gun, the safe affidavit will work, for handguns, must be accompanied by a lock.

Just to make it clear, the handgun that I was DROSING came with its "OEM" lock. They did not take that, the employee said no matter what, the gun must be accompanied by a new lock and that I would have to buy it there (receipt from a recent purchase does not work). This is the last time I'm gonna do a PPT at this location if its up to me to decide.

I bought a Mosin from Big 5 once, bought a lock when I bought the gun, and took it home. 10 days later when I came to pick up the rifle, a different guy at the counter wouldn't let me take the gun home without the lock, even though it was right there on the receipt. I actually had to go home, get the lock and bring it back to the store, just so he could hand me the rifle. WTF?
