    Great Day! MOTHER LOAD!

Okay guys - I just CAME UP. A while back, a long time ago when I was a child my dad had a Glock 17 - first or second gen. I remember he had all these toys to go along with it. He decided to get rid of the gun, if I remember correctly because of my mother. So I am in my other house in Palm Springs going through boxes looking for something for my sister and I come across a box my father gave to me when I was a kid.

The box contained a hunting knife, an old rusted pocket knife, stuff like that - then I came upon the mother load. 2 Factory 33rd 9mm Glock magazines. I have some high caps for a MAC (Stern I believe) and guns that use those mags that my grandfather gave to me as a kid, but nothing as cool as this.

They are pretty old though. No markings of any kind (besides "9mm" and "Glock Austria", no "LEO ONLY" or "2000+" or anything like that. They are in okay condition - but I want to make them like brand new.

So now I have to do 2 things:

-Rebuild the mags: housing, follower, spring (it might be in good condition - it has been in dry hot weather for the last 8 or so years), etc.
-Buy a Glock - But I am not a big fan of the Glock 17. I would prefer a Glock 26 or Glock 19. Would these mags work in the Glock 26? (Glock 26 would be best for comic value)

Does anyone have any good recommendations where I can get the parts to update it? I am under the belief that all new Glock mags have "Post 2000" or "LEO ONLY" on them - even though it is legal, I don't want to get into any kind of predicament. Can I get a good mag body with out all those red flag things on it? If so where?

Could I convert these mags into any other caliber?

And of course - I know this is 100% legal, but it is always good to double check - I was in possession of these mags and such for well over 8 years. I found them (didn't even knew I had them), and now I want to rebuild them as new and use them. 100% legal right?

Please any suggestions, comments, advice is more then welcome.

    Thanks,
    Tony

You mean you "had them in storage" for the last 8 years. Glock 33 round double stack magazines will fit any of the Glock "high cap" series pistols. If you go to the gun shows, there's alway someone there selling rebuild kits. You cannot convert to another caliber however.

Well, I would consider them in my possession since they were at my house, in my box, in my room, etc. But you could consider that being in storage as well. I live in LA - I have never been to a gun show before. When is one coming up? Couldn't I just order the parts online or something? I want all factory Glock parts in there - the strange part is I was just looking at pictures of Glock magazines online and mine does not have as much metal as the ones for sale online. Different generation magazines?

Just use the ones you found. IIRC, rebuild kits for the 33 rounders are pricey.

I think the first generation magazines did not have the metal lining. You truely have a preban there. The Crossroads gunshow in Costa Mesa is a good show, as well as Ontario. There's also a guy here on calguns selling rebuild kits. Ask him if he can get you a factory rebuild kit for the 33 rounder. I'm not sure if the new generation and the old generation parts are compatible however. A Glock expert should be along any minute to confirm that.

If they're factory, than they're good to go. Remember, it's a Glock. Regarding first gen magazines (the 17 and 15 rounders), they were not "drop free" magazines, but would "hang" in the magwell until you grasped the mag and pulled it out.

I notice online that there are 2 kinds of 33rd Glock magazines - ones with flat bottoms and ones with rounded type bottoms (almost like a extension, for a guy with giant hands)? What are the differences between those two bottoms?

                EDIT: This:

                vs. this

What is that for - what's the difference?

That's either a grip extender someone installed, or they're the +1/+2 round floor plates.

Hum - there was a picture I saw here with a sub-compact Glock with a huge mag in it - does anyone remember where that pic is? Some dude out of state posted it I remember.

lol, that is a pretty sweet find and will be fun for you to play with, but I don't know that it constitutes 'coming up.' Those 35rd. mags are really only necessary with the 18, but they do make speedy target perforation a little bit more entertaining.

yup - I just can't wait to see how it looks sticking out of a Glock 26. It really is gonna be funny.

I'd say don't bother rebuilding them until you've used them a few times. No point blowing a ton of cash to rebuild magazines you've never used, for a gun you don't even own yet.

Tons of cash? How much are they to rebuild?

Why do you have to rebuild them unless you find that they are un-reliable?

Glock stuffs are VERY durable.... I had 15 rounds magazines for my G19 that are n-years old, and their bodies are all cracked up, but they still load, feed, and shoot flawlessly! (I will rebuild them one day)

33 rounders aren't that expensive these days... but you will probably be paying $35-$50 per mag...
