Tell me about Gunbroker...

I'm thinking of joining the "Ebay of guns" but would like to know your experience with them first, both good and bad. Specifically, how many pistols or rifles have you purchased from them and how did the transaction unfold? Were your expectations met, and if not how were problems solved?

For those of us in CA, Gunbroker isn't as usefull as it is to those in free states.

I've had two positive experiences on Gunbroker. One for a hard to find upper, and one just to save a lot of money. But like Ebay, you need to check out the seller to make sure you feel comfortable with them. And make sure they ship to CA if you're in CA. And make sure if it's a firearm it's CA legal.

I've been buying/selling on GB since 2002.
Aside from some anti CA sellers... I've never had a bad experinace.
GB has more stuff listed than Auctionarms...But I like both sites just as well.

Stay off it, way to addicting. I have bought close to 100 guns on the site with never any problems.

A lot of sellers won't ship to California. That's the biggest complaint.

I too have bought several guns off Gunbroker. If you're the "gotta have it right now" type it can get expensive quick. If you're patient and can spend 6 months or a year looking for a steal on a certain gun, you will eventually find it.

I've made several purchases over the last several years and I have generally been patient and waited for an auction where it seemed everything was in order but there were few (if any) competing bids. Just luck of the draw that no one was looking for that particular gun on that particular week. I got a brand new IMI Timberwolf .357 pump STILL IN ORIGINAL BOX, UNFIRED for $500 plus shipping. I bought a pristine Marlin Model 62 .30 carbine lever for $350 in perfect working order, great cosmetic shape and very accurate once I added a 4x scope. If you hunt for deals, you can find them. But beware, it can get addicting and to keep from losing your anal virginity you will need to find an FFL with a reasonable transfer acceptance policy (modest fee to receive and process a shipped firearm). Also be double sure that you know whether the seller will ship to CA since if they will not, you will have to have it re-shipped and that adds to the price too.

If you can be alert, patient and mind the details it can be fun and a great way to acquire guns you just can't find locally. If you are sloppy and impatient, it can quickly become a fast way to burn money. So you'll find folks with mixed opinions. I won't be cancelling my membership anytime soon.

Purchased two pistols, 1 on roster, 1 off through single shot exemption. Both were private parties that were willing to ship to CA. One was even willing to learn about the single shot exemption. However, I probably wouldn't bother trying to negotiate with someone who puts up a "no sales to CA" comment on their ad.

I have used Gunbroker to purchase a Remington .243 rifle and I live in California. Just keep looking for a seller who will send to California and you are golden. Very good experiences.

i have bought guns, magazines, parts and accessories from vendors on Gunbroker. i have had no problems with sellers or transactions from Gunbroker. i'd advise you review the feedback rating of any seller you might buy from; the proof is in the puddin.

read carefully the terms of sale as written by seller, and rules of Gunbroker. have all questions answered before obligating yourself to purchase; don't be shy prior to the sale. if pictures offered aren't good enough... ask for more.

do the math on other costs besides the purchase price; at both ends of the deal (seller and your FFL).

I have bought and sold a lot on GB unfortunately out of the last six CR rifles bought there five had major undisclosed problems and went back to the seller. I was out the return postage. I've never been burned on Calguns. I'm still selling on GB but no longer a CR buyer there.

Are some sellers anti-CA? Yes.
Is it a big deal? No.
