Am I Overreacting?

Let me first post saying that I am a first time poster and long time reader of the forum. I don't post much because I dont consider myself very informative when it comes down to the majority of firearms and I would post unless I am an expert in the discussion, but I would like to know your guys opinion on this.

On the 23rd of March, I started the DROS on my first firearm that I ever purchased. It was at Fort Courage Armory in Ventura County. I always heard great things from this place, so as excited as can be, I started my 10 prison sentence. The owner Jim was very informative and seemed very genuine when he told me he would take great care of my beautiful M1A while she was in prison. He makes the usually small talk while he does paper work and told me how I must be very excited and ready to take her out to the range. Excited was an understate. He told me I would have it in exactly 10 days from then, as he wrote April 2nd on my receipt, and the earliest time I could pick it up.

I had friends drive up three hours away just to go shooting with me the day I got the rifle. I couldn't wait.

I think you guys can tell where this is going. I woke up this morning thrilled to pick up my rifle. I called ahead to confirm that they were open and according to their website and store hours on the phone, they were open. (As I expected them to be. They did promise I would have it today.)

I get there from my hour drive just to see a closed sign.......and a little note on the door saying that they went to some Elk meeting/convention/I dont care, and they wont be open til Tuesday... What is the deal with that? Am i overreacting? Maybe. Am I pissed off that they didn't take the time to call me or keep their word? Definitely. I know that Gretta's Gun's has some terribly reviews but at least they are open when they say they will be.

So my plans to go shooting this weekend with friends, not happening. And I probably wont be able to go shooting with those friends for at least a couple of months. I am not happy with Fort Courage. My M1A should be in my hands not in some safe in Ventura.

I really do want to know what you think. Am I asking too much for wanting a man to keep his word?

Please let this thread die, while I was disappointed by not having the rifle, Fort Courage is still a great place. I don't want this threat to negatively affect Tim, for his services and attitude are something to be admired, not scrutinized.

Sometimes life just grabs you and you have to do what you gotta do. I would have called and talked to someone before going up.

It happens and you gotta try to roll with it.

FFL has bad scheduling. They need to inform their customers that do those transactions that they may not be open on those days. Not by law or anything, but just good customer service - which is obviously rare in the firearms industry.

Honestly, that was a d**k move.

If someone tells you to come pickup your firearm on a certain day at a specific time , they should be there.

I know if it ends up being at 6:59 on a Sunday, they may not be there, but I do feel that the dealer should tell you they may be closed at that time.

I bought a pistol once, and the guy at ammo bros told me to pick it up Thursday the 26tth (which happened to also be Thanksgiving day) I jokingly asked if he would be there at noon on Thanksgiving day to finish the transaction. He laughed and joked about it and said "Sorry, I forgot that we will be closed on Thanksgiving".

Now, I can totally understand if your pickup time is anytime after X:xx, and that happens to be on a day they are closed, or on the weekend after hours, that should be the customers responsibility to make sure they will be open, but I don't feel that they should happen to just close up shop one day, and say "Sorry, catch you next time." But then again, I don't do that, but if you are the business owner, feel free to do whatever the hell you want.

I'm with you man but Vinz does have a point in shaking off the small stuff. I'd be upset for sure, but since there's nothing you can do about it now, I would put it on the shelf and wait till Tues. No reason to let it eat you for three more days.

Come Tuesday I'd go in pick it up and make everything final. On the way out give 'em some "by the way.....".

I'd be pissed. Did you let them know you'd be there in an hour when you called to confirm they were open? Not that you should have to, they should have mentioned that they were closing up early when you called.

Id be pissed about it too. I would not buy another firearm from that store for that reason. When u shake a mans hand and give your word, u should follow through.

I drive 45 minutes up to Simi Valley to do business with Fort Courage. They're quick and well-informed and I get none of the typical gunstore BS from them.

So you called and got the canned message but you didn't speak to anyone. The last time they heard that you were coming up was when you bought the gun a week and a half ago.

I guess I am a little surprised that they left the shop with nobody to cover. And it would be a better plan to change the message to say, "Oh, by the way, we're closing early for XYZ."

I understand your frustration, and I wouldn't expect you to keep giving them business, but this is a small sin and I'll probably keep buying stuff through them (though I may learn from this and call ahead and wait until I get a person on the phone before jumping on the motorcycle/truck).

That's disappointing. I think it's a little strong to say the guy didn't keep his word if he didn't commit to a particular pick-up time, but it's also a good way to piss people off. If I understand you correctly, you called and listened to a recording before driving to pick up your gun - it would've been a good idea to really talk to a person before making a long drive, just to make sure they weren't closed unexpectedly or that your DROS wasn't delayed/rejected.

But that is a bummer, and they could've done a better job making their closure known in advance.

Yes
