    AFAIC YSW KTNXBAI.
The bullets with my name on it I'm not worried about, it's the "To whom it may concern" ones I'm worried about.

Then that is our fault. Ideally we should be helpful, at the very least tolerant, of newbs.

Im not gonna lie, i hate all the acronyms. I dont even know them all and often am like whats that and have to think for a second. I hate it when i see some people make up their own acronyms and thats when im really like what the f**k? The military just totally murdered acronyms for me. Im so sick of it. Who wants to go on a forum and have to learn more when im sure everybody has enough to remember with their job already. I was havig a real hard time when i first joined here but its alot easier now after i googled everything a billion times.

Acronyms are common in every technical field their is. It's just part of the learning curve. We as a society need to move back towards challenging people to excel....not continually dumbing things down for the lazy.

Custom PC's, paintball, home theater, hot rods, you name it. They all have their specific set of acronyms and shortened words that sound silly and completely foreign to people unfamiliar with it. Expecting a gun forum to end up being any different is silly since shooting is just as much of a normal hobby as the other things I listed.
The same sticky should be a sticky in the "Announcements" Forum, under "New to Calguns"?

There are elistest a-holes everywhere that forget they were the FNG once too....the shooting sports unfortunately has alot of them....but there are alot of great people in the sport too.

With the uncontrolled nature of an internet message board can we always expect someone to read thru 1000s of archived posts first to see if the question has been previously asked and answered before? Seems a bit ridiculous. Plus I have found that answering peoples' questions is also a good way to drive home knowledge on certain things to the ones doing the answering. Recitation/repetition does have some learning value to it, not to mention engaging the analytical skills to disect someone's question and relate it to the knowledge you've gained so far.

No way, we have a glossary AND a search button. I am tired of an expectation of people to want to be spoon fed information. If people would make half an effort to find the glossary or better yet use their language skills to depict what we are talking about then we wouldn't have to pander to the lowest level. We can still be welcoming and provide the less 2A savy with information without pandering to their desires.

P.S. Asking the military types to stop speaking with acronyms is like asking us to enjoy eating Country Captain Chicken MRE's.

Once you finally get all the acronyms you are officially in the Calguns club.

I agree with rromeo; can folks quit the gun baby talk such as winny and remmy? I hate that talk.

I'm new to this forum, but not to guns and even I don't know all of the "lingo". I understand the desire to have it by some, as they believe it gives us identity, but in my honest opinion it does not give us an aura of sophistication that we need to disprove the views of the Anti-s. On other forums, people complain a lot about the usage of words like "Clip" or "Assault gun" in the media-but in many cases, those words they use to frighten their readers have come from gun owners who were lazily use such slang.

I love guns, and mustered through it, and now use the shorthand slurrs in my everyday speech... but I see a problem... We are alienating the uninitiated. Who thinks we should add to the ''curse word'' filter all shorthand words, like BB, BBL, SBR, NFA, etc... just to make the sight much more pallatable to new browsers? I for one can type relatively fast, and wouldn't be bothered by a few more fractions of a second spent typing a message.
I do not want to have to type out Bullet Button, Short Barreled Rifle, National Firearms Act everythime I post so I use commonly-understood acronyms. If I was forced to have to type them out each and every time, I would probably post less often. At some point, the readers need to take the time to learn the lingo.

If you are so down with this idea start doing it. If it works out practically some may follow. Don't change the way things are by instituting rules, change the way things are by making it popular. Also even though some of us may not have an issue with typing in an expediant manner others may not... think of the older guys on CGF. I don't want to be short-changed their wisdom from years because it is a pain for them to post.
